A lot had happened since last year. After… Everything happened, a lot of people started to flee, started to get away, but he knew that there wasn't anywhere to go. So he stayed, he chose to stay, because he knew that Will could be saved, knew that whatever had happened could be undone.

Summary
Hawkins is saved.
El is dead.
Mike and Will have gotten into so many arguments that neither of them knows what to do about it. Will decides it's time to move on, to go to college, to get away from it all. when Mike finally decides to get his head out of his ass, he finds himself stranded in the city, doing whatever he can to save Will from an abusive boy and his own self-deprecating thoughts.

“I’m sorry I got mad,” Mike said carefully, “but you scared me back there.”
“I know,” Will said, stomach twisting. “I didn’t mean to.”
Mike went on as if he hadn’t spoken, distant, detached. “When we come out here, I know there’s a possibility someone is going to die. That’s just the way it is now, you know? I always tell myself it’s okay, that I can get over it.” He looked at Will then, his expression solemn, almost resolute. “I can get over it as long as it’s not you.”
Will’s breath caught.
