(Cannibalism is a hell of an eating disorder.) Hannibal and Will survive the fall, and are forced to hide away nursing their wounds, entirely cut off from their usual resources. At first their bond is only strengthened, but as scrounging for food becomes necessary, it becomes increasingly clear that Hannibal's obsessive eating habits aren't just a power play, but the only way he feels powerful at all. Will's not entirely prepared to handle decades of cannibal trauma over a can of soup, but he tries. Love wins, but in a canon-typical way.

Summary
“Long day, Will?” Hannibal carefully licked the tip of his thumb, then using it to flip to the next page in the book he read: To Kill a Mockingbird. It was a favorite of his.
Will let out a laugh. His frustration rang in it. He often laughed when he was upset. Hannibal noticed it each time.
“Long day… yeah. Yeah. It’s always a long day, isn’t it?” His head tilted back and he took a deep breath, exhaling with flared nostrils. Will closed his eyes.
“Have you had dinner, Will? You can come over and I will make something for us. I myself have yet to eat. Anything you do not finish I will save for tomorrow if that’s your concern.” Hannibal figured a change of topic would help to ease Will’s tension. He could see it in his body: raised shoulders, balled fists, and pursed lips. All obvious physical indicators of stress.
“No, I haven’t had dinner. I haven’t even had lunch.” Will stood up and began to walk out already, though he turned to look at Hannibal again, asking a silent question.
“I will drive, then."

"Yes, sir." Will answered.
The cop left after an awkward beat and Will slammed the door closed, wrapping the blankets more tightly around himself. He looked down at the card.

He threw the offending card in the front into the pile of trash. He scowled at it. Did he really read that easy? He buried his head under the blankets. He refused to admit it. He didn't want help. He was fine on his own.

Hannibal blinks, feeling blindsided, before a surge of relentless anger floods every corner of his body. Will stares with that same vacant mask he’s built, giving nothing away.
“You are not dying.” He replies, sure as can be. Of course, Will isn’t dying. Ridiculous boy, how could he—
“Maybe I should.”
And Hannibal freezes.
Blood, bones, and tar all turn to ice. His spine straightens without his permission and Hannibal leans back, fixing his unmoving boy with a blank stare that reflects a calmness that he no longer feels.
Will drops his eyes, clenches his hands into fists, then releases. “Maybe I should just let whatever this is…” He swallows hard. “Kill me.”
_________________Will calls Hannibal in a panic after he sleepwalks and ends up in the woods. Hannibal finds him and gets him home safely, but there are more than just nightmares and exhaustion crawling around in Will's mind now, and Hannibal begins to realize that perhaps he pushed too far.

He looks soft and astoundingly docile.
