Summary
She'd found out about the voids when she was little, wished she could fall through the floor without her mom scolding her one more time, and did. She wishes sometimes that they didn't always have to have an opening on the other side.
She wishes that really hard, now.

“We never did go take care of that asshole who’d been paying Udonta in the first place. Let’s go track him down, see if we can’t shake any answers out of him.”
Martinex raises his eyebrows. “Just answers?”
Stakar looks suddenly fifteen years younger and fifteen times as vicious. “Nah. Whatever Yondu did or didn’t do, that a-hole killed plenty of them kids. I reckon that makes him fair game.” His lips twist in a sharp, nasty curve like one of Aleta’s fancy blades. “Let’s go extract some debt from that bastard.”

Summary
Social interactions are hard. Learning to read people when they're flirting with you is harder, especially when you spend most of your time around children and a living planet. Mantis is figuring things out at her own pace.
Or, five times someone made a pass at Mantis and someone else intervened; plus one time Mantis propositioned someone else on her own damn terms.

Nebula stares at Mantis’ outstretched hand. “No. You’re making a mistake.”
Mantis doesn’t move. “Maybe. That’s not why l offered. I make my own choices.”

Summary
“You were drunk. I know it didn’t mean anything. Everything’s alright.”
Buck visibly winces. “That’s not — Eddie.”
There’s a suspended moment where Buck looks torn, standing on the edge of something, eyes fixed on the horizon to avoid looking at the drop, the precipitous canyon below. But then Buck, who can’t lie, who would tear his own chest open to a complete stranger on the street because the truth of him spills so loudly out of every jagged edge, sighs out:
“It meant something.”
There’s a ringing sound somewhere in the distance, getting closer. “What are you…” Eddie trails off.
“I wasn’t — well, I was drunk. But that wasn’t what. Wasn’t why. Not entirely, or — god.” Buck shudders in a breath, steeling himself. “I have feelings for you.” He closes his eyes. “I’m so sorry.”
~
Buck confesses his feelings. Eddie’s straight. If he spends all his time thinking about Buck and looking at Buck and wanting to be around Buck, well, that’s just being a good friend, isn’t it? He’s being so normal about this, actually.

Summary
Shannon Diaz née Garrett had a high tolerance for bullshit. You don’t get married at eighteen, become a mom at nineteen, and survive living under the omnipresent gaze of the world’s most… particular in-laws without developing many, many strategies for self-preservation. Every snide remark about Chris’ CP, every passive aggressive comment from Helena Diaz, every vertebra of Eddie’s liquid spine, Shannon took right on the chin with a smile on her face.
But there was no corner of Shannon’s life that she tested her extreme tolerance for bullshit more than whatever the Samwise-and-Frodo, Bert-and-Ernie, Crockett-and-Tubbs hell was going on between her ex-husband and his best friend.
(In which Shannon Diaz née Garrett lives, gets divorced, and helps her ex-husband realize that he’s in love with his best friend)

Sometimes you have to break things to fix them. Chris would break his relationship with Buck, but Buck's already done that.
Chris can finish the job, though.

Summary
“I think maybe Pepa's setting you up with the wrong people,” Buck blurts out.
“I did like him, he just–”
“I mean–” Buck huffs, and then he really gets going, “he’s basically just some–some emotionally unavailable douche who dragged you all the way out to Studio City fully intending to ditch you until he realized he had a chance to get in your pants, which–where, in some restroom? And don’t even get me started on–like, you said you sucked his dick, but what about you? Did he even get you off? That doesn’t sound very considerate! Frankly, he sounds like a terrible guy, and you should let me set you up with someone!”
Eddie’s brain isn’t going remotely as fast as Buck’s, because he’s still slowly making his way from his first thought (did I ever tell him I was meeting Matt in Studio City?) to his second one (has he been thinking about if and how I got off this whole time?) when Buck says that last part, and then it takes another moment to sink in. He blinks at the table. He blinks at Buck. “I’m sorry, what was that?”
Or: Eddie comes out, Pepa takes the initiative, and Buck follows her lead.

Summary
“Hey,” Buck says, in the hospital room after it’s all over. “Just so you know, I’m in love with you.”
His voice is raspy, his smile a little self-deprecating. His eyes, when Eddie stares at him in surprise, are steady and blue. He doesn't sound like he’s blurting something out, or getting something off his chest, or confessing something he’s embarrassed of. He just sounds like he’s telling Eddie about the weather, something mundane. The sun is hot in the sky, they’re in New Mexico, and Buck is, apparently, in love with him.
Buck confesses to Eddie after the kidnapping. Eddie, in a fit of madness, accepts his confession. It'll be fine - just because Eddie isn't in love with Buck, doesn't mean he can't be his boyfriend.
