Summary
He tells himself Chance is just… convenient. A new person. A distraction. Someone who doesn’t come with years of complicated history, someone who doesn’t make Will feel like he’s standing in the shadow of someone else’s love story.
He tells himself it would be nice to have something uncomplicated. Then he thinks about Chance’s voice in art class. About the way Chance said, you make it look like it matters. Will doesn’t know how to handle someone treating him like he matters without making it into a hunger. Will doesn’t know how to want anything without turning it into a desperate, aching need.

Possibility A: Mike is growing jealous of the notes. He also really likes taking care of Will through all the bad nights, maybe a little more so than just a friend would.
Possibility B: Will is delusional, because Mike is just a good friend.
What’s horrible about Possibility B is that it’s definitely at least 75% true. Which wouldn’t change much.
What’s damning about Possibility A is that if it’s even 1% true, then that changes absolutely everything.
