    Twenty years ago, LV-387 was ground-zero for a rebellion against Weyland Yutani, where a colony successfully fought away Weyland-Yutani troops and established their own independant colony. For a year or two this colony flourished on it's own while they negotiated with Weyland-Yutani for sovereignty. During one of these diplomatic meetings, when a select few were invited off planet to speak to Weyland-Yutani execs, the colony was surprised by a rain of hellfire. Without putting a single troop on planet soil, the entire colony was raised to the ground. The surviving rebels were given the choice of execution or debt enslavement.

    Nearly twenty years later, the children of those rebels are still repaying their debts. Weyland-Yutani has forced them into squalor, and the only way to pay back their debts is by extracting resources from the planet itself. In a desperate attempt to get her family off-planet, Aleja takes an unorthodox scavenging job that plans on digging into an abandoned Weyland-Yutani facility. It promises to set them up for life, with the only catch being that this facility hasn't been uncovered since before the bombs, and has long been kept hidden by mounds of trash and Landfill.

    “I promised you I'd take you home,” She says. "I meant that. I’m gonna do my best to get it right.”

    In the brief moment that Mark Watney has time to react, he is only backing away. Chris Beck shouts out commands relevant to the medical crisis unfolding before them and Lewis and Vogel appear to move in slow motion as they push Martinez back onto the table. Watney feels morbid for thinking it, but he’s wondering where the guy’s God is. Rick’s chest morphs and appears to convex through his shirt, a red splatter seeping through along with his screams that seem to dip through the thick material of the Hab and extend out into the thin atmosphere of Mars.

    In that moment, the crew is entirely alone. Houston cannot tell them what to do or what’s going wrong, no one else is there to give a second opinion. In that moment, the Ares III crew witnesses the horrors of alien life unfolding only one planet away from their home.
