Decades passed without a single further meeting between Wednesday Addams and Tyler Galpin. Until one day she receives a letter with the familiar stamp of Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital, where Tyler has been institutionalized for nearly the last twenty years under Dr. Fairburn's intense and unorthodox therapy. "After years of treatment, observation, and controlled rehabilitation, the decision has been made—both by our internal review board and the state authorities—that Mr. Galpin no longer presents a danger to himself or to others." Now, he has been set to be released on his own recognizance, as fully rehabilitated.
To say the least, Wednesday has her doubts.

Slurp started the zombie apocalypse.
Now, years later, Wednesday moved like a silent punctuation mark across the carcass of the world. Black boots. Black braids. Black blade. She had traded her cello for a machete, though she still hummed Vivaldi when decapitating zombies. Human colonies were the only imitation of civilization left, but they were built on fear, ruled by whomever held the most guns and the least conscience. Survivors were chaotic, loud, sentimental, and possessed an alarming talent for stepping directly into a creature’s open mouth. Zombies were, at least, predictable and reliable.
But Tyler Galpin—then and now—belonged to a category all his own.
More monster than man.
And more slave than anything else, even after all these years.

She studied him—every inch of the strained muscles, the fevered eyes, the chains dug into brick. He was desperate, despite all the bravado. That much was obvious. She could smell the tang of his fear hanging in the air like pheromones. He truly was at his last grasp of sanity; a Hyde without a master was only madness driven inwards, layers upon layers of insanity folding in upon itself like a slow-acting implosion. He had no chance at ever being normal, but that didn’t mean she had to leash the beast instead of slay it.
“Say it,” Wednesday declared.
Tyler’s head tilted. “Why?”
“Because I want to hear if you mean it.”
The corner of his mouth twitched. “You want obedience, or proof?”
“Both.”
