“Is this how you found yourself here?” The droid’s head tilts quizzically; something in it reminds him of Bee. “Shot and shut down and rebuilt in a strange new place?”
There’s a pause he’d call baffled, except the droid doesn’t move an inch, its gaze resting unwaveringly on Cassian’s face as he pulls deep gulps of the water. “You are not a droid,” is all it eventually points out.
“And you’re not an Imperial anything, no matter what that crest on your shoulder plate claims.”
The head tips back the other way. “I am Kay-Two-Ess-Oh.” Cassian sketches a sardonic salute before bracing himself and starting to lever his body more upright, ribs protesting quite adamantly with the motion. “You are Lieutenant Joreth Sward; except perhaps you are not.”
That at least gives him pause; if they’ve already sorted that for themselves, maybe his hopes of extracting himself from this place are rising considerably.

Kleya scoffed. Truthfully, he deserved every ounce of her derision. “Or the ISB is taking their time painting a very detailed picture and placing all of their assets, so that when they do strike, they can sweep it all up at once.”
It wasn’t a headache, really. An insistent, escalating pressure, the weight of his own compromise, all of the allowances he’d made for Cassian Andor from the first they met and fought their way out of the warehouse on Ferrix. To the moment he’d offered himself up, begged to be killed or to be made useful; and how Luthen had used, without hesitation or remorse.
He couldn’t decide if it bothered him more, to think himself capable of misjudgment so severe, or to think Andor capable of such skillful and protracted betrayal.
