A fantastic fic, and one that feels like the product of serious thought, care, and research. What makes it so compelling is not only the author’s obvious familiarity with the source material, but their willingness to engage with the more difficult, intricate details that many writers (understandably) gloss over. The result is a work that feels exceptionally well-researched, without ever losing sight of what makes fiction enjoyable in the first place.
It is also just such a thoughtful engagement with the novel’s world and politics, despite being set in the modern world!! The author’s reading of Wei Wuxian in particular is fascinating — genuinely one of the most insightful and convincing interpretations I have come across, and one that made me see both him and the canon itself somewhat differently afterwards. I think my view of him as a character has been irrevocably altered haha :)
There is SO much to admire here: the gradual and believable development of Wangxian, the use of research and historical detail, the junior quartet, the characterisation (it really can’t be praised enough), and the sheer intelligence with which the entire story is structured. Also, the author’s notes were truly a delight to read, I was looking forward to it every time I finished a chapter!!

The plot! The characters!! The relationships!!! All of it is amazing and executed incredibly well. I especially loved the subtle ways in which a Wei Wuxian raised by his parents differs from canon.
What I probably admire most about this fic, however, is how natural everything felt. From the development of the relationships to the different night-hunts, nothing felt rushed or forced, but neither did it drag despite the fic’s considerable length.
I also really enjoyed the lack of unnecessary interpersonal drama between Wangxian. They both realise their feelings fairly quickly and act on them once it makes sense to do so, which was such a refreshing read — and, in my opinion, actually very canon-accurate.
For all its adventure, this fic has something very comforting about it :)

The characterisation in this is SO good. In MDZS, it is often very easy — and very convenient — to simply vilify one character or another. And when people try to avoid doing that, they often fall into the opposite trap of stripping characters of their complexity by sanding away their genuine flaws or over-justifying their actions.
This fic does none of that. It manages to make every single character feel profoundly human— they’re flawed, intelligent, self-interested, sympathetic, frustrating. Not only Yu Ziyuan, but even Jin Guangshan is allowed to be more than a token antagonist. He is undeniably terrible, but he is not an idiot, and neither is anyone else here.
Characters like Jiang Cheng are not absolved of their actions, but neither are they reduced to simple villainy.
Overall this is simply an incredibly engaging fic, that can be both fun and heart-wrenching :)

This is THE female Percy Jackson fic. The characterisation, the writing / the prose…I’m in love?? In my opinion a true must read, because I could continue to praise this endlessly and still not manage to capture the way reading it made me feel. So incredible!!

Sadie is truly one of my favourite characters. Her moral compass is especially interesting! She’s so refreshingly self-aware? And very logical, while still feeling human. The characterisation in this fic overall is incredible—it really delves into the nature of Alice’s power, and the inherent creepiness of Twilight Vampires!! An amazing read!!
