Faced with his mom’s disappointment, though, and with the realization that the entire world apparently thinks he hates Henry and would willingly shove him into a fucking cake, he can’t stay quiet.
“But we are friends,” he says, vehement and serious. “We have been for years. He’s—he’s probably my best friend, actually, along with Nora.”

“What, exactly, does it mean? That they’re Unforgivable?” Even as preoccupied as he was, Sirius knew the question came out of his mouth well-formed, with a tone of polite and genuine curiosity. He’d had the ability beat into him, quite literally.
“Well,” his professor began, doing a decent job at hiding her disbelief that Sirius was participating in a lecture, “using any one of these curses on a fellow human being is highly illegal and punishable to the fullest extent of wizarding law.”
Sirius couldn’t help it, he let out a strangled sort of laugh. He must have heard her wrong. A tirade of thoughts flashed through his head, yet all he could manage to say was, “what?”
“These are very serious crimes, Mr. Black,” his professor lectured, perhaps mistaking his confusion for something else, “and using any one of them earns the witch or wizard a one-way trip to Azkaban.”
“Well, not everyone,” he replied, before his brain could stop him.

Of course, if he had followed the rules, he wouldn't have discovered that Remus Lupin has apparently taken his death rather badly.

He seemed so proper, so professional, and yet she couldn’t help but remember the way he had blushed so furiously when she’d suggested they pretend to be on a date, and the way his eyes had twinkled mischievously at her stupid librarian joke. He was an enigma, a man encased in a mystery, and she was determined to get to the bottom of it.
One late June evening, Tonks attends the first meeting of the newly reformed Order of the Phoenix. In the dark, damp kitchen of Number 12 Grimmauld Place, she meets Remus Lupin. They are partnered up for a reconnaissance mission, and so begins a journey which will turn Tonks' life upside down.

“I dunno,” Remus says slowly, every word requiring tremendous effort. “I think you’re overdoing it.”
Sirius acts surprised, raising an elegantly arched eyebrow. “What. You wanted me to act presentable, didn’t you?”
Remus shakes his head, shaking his hand in front of him, too, like one would ward off evil spirits. “This…” he points at Sirius, “Is weird. You need to stop it.”
“What?” Sirius’s steps towards Remus, his voice low and full of mischief. “Scared you won’t be able to keep your hands off me, huh?”
