There is a beat where it's just the two of them. He can hear the sound of the water gently washing against the boat. The birds are singing, hidden in the maze of branches made by sparse trees. He can feel Wei Ying’s heartbeat from where they are connected, hand-to-jaw. Wei Ying's pulse fills his ears. It’s strong. He is alive.
“Lan Zhan, ah, Lan Zhan,” Wei Ying says, and it’s melodic, sweet and beautiful. “Will you marry me?”
