The funeral came and went quicker than he wanted it to, he made a speech, he tried to convince himself that Bobby was always going to be with him, Maddie had, Athena had, Chimney had. Even Eddie had tried to get him to believe it as soon as they came back (a day after Bobby died, specifically), but he's struggling to believe it. He wants to believe it, but he doesn't want to believe that he is gone.

Steve closes the door to the apartment behind him. He can hear muffled whimpering coming from the living room and huffs a laugh. He loosens the tie of the suit he was wearing to the PR event, and unbuttons the top two buttons of his shirt.
“Hey!” he calls out, still overwhelmed with happiness at being able to do that. It’s probably lame. He doesn’t care. It makes his chest bubble up with joy.
