He knows, Mike thinks, gaze finding Will’s still form in his mother’s arms just a couple feet away. They’d both been hovering a few feet in the air, one of Will’s hands still on Mike’s shoulder and both their eyes rolled back. Mike had seen it, dragged along towards the portal where Will refused to let go of his hand. Even now, one of Will’s hands is still stretched towards Mike, fingertips just barely brushing his ankle. Mike has the absurd urge to shove Lucas off of him, shove Mrs. Byers off of Will, and wrap his arms around Will himself.
He has another urge to run far, far away.

This is. The kind of writing that makes you want to write, too. This is *phenomenal* and feels like a perfect insight into Mike's headspace with the quarry and everything, it just scratches the itch for Mike angst in a way that's extremely hard to top I fear. It's so immersive with every line I swear and all the characters are done so well I cannot recommend this enough

Holly gets taken by Vecna and Mike knows he has bigger problems than his unrequited feelings (or so he thinks) for Will Byers. That doesn't stop him from spilling his guts anyway and avoiding the ensuing conversation by diving headfirst into the mindscape to save his baby sister, and maybe find Max along the way. But Will isn't going to let him get away with a confession that easily. AKA Mike is clocked by more than one person in the midst of the apocalypse and figures he might as well go for broke.

I thought about bookmarking this several times, and then had to go and hunt it down through my history lol. I really like the headcanon of sad early s4 Mike and Max just hanging out in silence. God it now lives rent free in my head. There's so much good stuff in here

It’s a whisper, but it’s filled with something so earnest, so true, that it strikes through Mike’s very core. Rips apart at his chest, with the familiarity of it. The way his name sounds in this younger Will’s throat, soft and gentle and so, so relieved.
“Will,” Mike says back, matching his whisper. “Hey, Will, it’s me. Mike.”
“But—” Will frowns. He’s so unsure, Mike wants to cry for him. “You’re so tall.”

Or, when Will is possessed by Vecna and trapped in his own mind, Mike is the only one who can save him.
