A series of prompt fills for my original fiction novel, The Last Damsel. Written for the Writers Month 2020 prompt challenge.
Cedrix, a blunt, entitled prince, expects a damsel in distress. Instead he finds neither damsel, nor distress, but an endearingly useless wizard named Tim. Cedrix immediately gets down on bended knee, but is eventually convinced to settle for a compromise: dating. The only problem? Neither Cedrix nor Tim are entirely sure what dating is.

“How did you even get in? I very definitely remember locking up.”
“Ah,” Gale looks ever-so-slightly abashed. Only slightly, though. Mostly he looks a little proud of himself. “You know how the receptionist is always asleep?”
Astarion's eyebrows shoot up.
“Gale Dekarios, you shady thing.”
“I only borrowed it! He's never been awake enough to ask about spares, so. It was easier to just sort it out myself.”
“It would have been easier to ask me,” Astarion points out.
“Mmmm,” Gale hums, doubtfully. “I don't know if I'd ever consider you the ‘easier’ option, Astarion, I feel that would be doing your commitment to cantankerousness a great disservice.”
I'd be extremely easy if you weren't so fucking annoying, Astarion thinks.

“Don’t you have anything better to do?!” Martin asked, glaring at the door.
The knocking, for a moment, stopped. “Not really,” he heard, a faint rattle of a voice through the door. “Next attempt at world domination isn’t scheduled for another month yet.”

Jon joins an am-dram group and manages to land the lead in Hamlet. He's playing off of a very nervous but kinda cute co-star for both the love interest and queer coded best friend roles. Which means lots of rehearsing, car sharing, physical c-c-contact and practice k*ssing... Perhaps there's a chance they might fall in.... no... surely not...
