In these delightfully sinful moments, he feels like he could die happy. It might sound morbid, but he’s got Robby, his boss, eating his husband's spend from him like he’s starving. Jack’s petting his head and telling him what a good boy he is, how he is doing so well in a hushed, soft voice he knows no one else gets to hear. It’s so intimate, this place in their lives he’s been let into. His sleepy, blissed-out brain begs the question again: What is this? How could this be anything but love? The thought repeats like a mantra, and tears spill from his closed eyes again.

In the middle of the conversation, Lance stops talking and no one notices. It’s not like he had been leading the conversation, for he hadn’t been, but somehow the fact that his lack of input or opinion isn’t noticed tightens the grip loneliness has on his heart. He looks down at his food, his face burning, his throat tightening up.

The Emperor shrugs their shoulders nonchalantly, turning slightly to meet Shiro’s gaze from behind Lance. “This is an important meeting. The entire council will be there and each of your team is required to come with an agreement treaty because all of you have something to offer.” Their green feline eyes fall on Lance once again, expression bored and indifferent, “Except for the Blue Paladin, his...presence is not required.”
Lance’s smile wavers and he takes a shuddering breath in before he lets it out slowly, taking a step back.
(Because not everyone they save are grateful and words sting, Shiro and Keith are in charge of reminding their blue partner why he is important and shower him with love.)
