Adore this take on canon divergence and how it doesn't fully villanize or excuse the characters. Their actions make sense for the path the author provided for them to step on and i'll be honest, the slow burn and reconciliation of feelings from tartaglia's perspective stuck a solid landing. It solidified my feelings of satisfaction and content for the ride Fontaine took from its transition of power and it feels like a bit of a shame I can't fully experience that shift in the game itself.

“You remember the Phantom Thieves of Hearts business a few years back?” The director asks. “It won’t be a complete one to one, but I do have to admit that this series’ plot is loosely based on it.”
Okay, now that’s just unfair. Now Ren has to take the role.
So that’s how Ren becomes a Featherman Ranger.
Or, Amamiya Ren becomes a Featherman actor, bases his character off Akechi, and the real Akechi Goro disastrously simps from afar.

Perhaps this is why someone crossing the border is able to do what no one else before has, and unravel some of his vaunted self-control.
