    “Eddie,” Buck chokes. “The baby. Can we talk about the baby?” 

    Eddie’s eyes crinkle, a helpless smile curving his lips. God. God. 

    “A darling little girl,” Eddie murmurs softly, tipping Buck forward until their foreheads are touching. “Who looks a little bit like me, but all you.” 

    “Oh,” Buck’s voice cracks as he lets himself imagine it—a tiny little baby with Eddie’s hair and Eddie’s eyes and Eddie’s face, and almost chokes with the feeling that rushes over him like a wave. “Oh.” 

    “I’ve always wanted three,” Eddie whispers into the inches between them, a sacred confession. “Two’s good, but three’s perfect.” 

    —sometimes falling in love looks a lot like a third baby before you ever kiss.

    "Did your moms tell you that Buck is adopting a kid?" Chris asks.

    "Seriously?"

    "Not just a kid, his biological son." Chris tries to keep the disdain out of his voice. He fails.

    "Oh, man," Denny replies. "Guess you're not an only child anymore."
