“Gege, who’s this?” His voice is deep, but his tone is far from what Chen Liqiu expected. He expected cold detachment to ooze from his tone, yet it was warm. As if he cared about who he was speaking to. Chen Liqiu turned to Xie Lian, suddenly noticing the silver jewelry that hung from his ears and neck, and the clip. The clip that Chen Liqiu knew would cost a fortune.

“That wasn’t the only unsavory thing about him, sadly,” Xie Lian spoke, sitting up. He scooted closer to Hua Cheng, so close their thighs were touching. This was a common occurrence.
Xie Lian was clingy. He had always been, even with objects. The young prince did not like sharing his toys and would bring them with him everywhere. His mother didn’t believe it extended to other living beings until Hua Cheng. Nor had he, but here they were. Xie Lian brought him everywhere, sought him out everywhere, and when they were together, they stuck together like they were conjoined at the hip.
“Oh?” Hua Cheng smirked, leaning on his hand. “Do tell, gege.”Or; follow Prince of the Faeries, Xie Lian, and Hua Cheng, a human, fall in love!

Xie Lian’s cheeks flushed. Hua Cheng thought Xie Lian looked lovely in red.
“Well, my favorite drink during the holidays is something hot, so do you have a preference between sweet and bitter?”

Hua Cheng had prided himself on being callous and cold, nothing ever getting under his skin. Where was that now? He slouched further into the divan. He was worried. Xie Lian was currently with his two servants, alone. Two idiots who came with the purpose of stealing him away. What if Hua Cheng never saw the prince again? What if he just left with his friends, not even stopping to say goodbye? The god couldn’t handle it. He would never get to see Xie Lian’s smile, which was brighter than a thousand suns. Hear his laugh, which was like the most pleasant melody. He could no longer watch as his hazel eyes lit up with excitement as Hua Cheng showed him a new part of the manor, or even a new robe. Just him, every part of him he would miss, because he loved him so.

XIe Lian lay among a patch of brush for days or weeks, he couldn’t tell, letting his body knit itself together and grow accustomed to the brightness of the world. When he confirmed he was whole and unwounded, he snuck out to a river in the middle of the night to wash himself or drown himself, whichever came first. He didn’t look at his reflection– he didn’t want to know what a horrifying sight he must have been. He submerged himself completely, trying his hardest to clean the dirt and blood and who knows what else from his hair, his skin, and his robes. The water ran red and brown, and he didn’t leave the river until several hours later, when the stench of dried blood had lessened enough to be bearable. He thought maybe he’d drowned in the water. He crawled, dripping wet and shivering, to a meadow hidden in the woods, where he lay hoping that the sun would dry him off tomorrow.
It was there, the next day, that the red fox found him.

“Rescue me?” Xie Lian arches an eyebrow at the man, mentally racking his brain to try and remember the scholar's name or anything else he can about him or his companions, but Xie Lian has spent far more time at Paradise Manor or in Puqi Shrine over the last few years than he has in the heavens and so these three young gods are barely known to him. “From what?”
The healer god, Wa Ying, lets out an exasperated huff of breath. “From that monster of course.”
Instantly Xie Lian stiffens, his back straightening and his tone cooling. “What monster?”
Wong Tu lets out a mocking laugh. “The one you call your husband of course and I told you before,” this to his companions, “he's not a victim. He's a willing participant.”
OR Post-Canon Xie Lian gets abducted by gods who don't like the influence Hua Cheng has over him...
