Summary
After a basketball game, Neil catches Billy staring just a little bit too long at Steve, and realises exactly who is the latest object of Billy’s affections. He sets out on a path to deter Steve from ever seeing Billy again.
There’s just one problem: Steve has no idea of Billy’s feelings for him. As far as he’s concerned, Billy’s still the asshole who put him in hospital in November.

“I’d, uh… offer you coffee but…” Steve glanced sceptically at the two old pots that Steve had made the mistake of drinking a coffee from on his first day to discover that the granules were so old and stale that they didn’t fully dissolve in water that barely got above lukewarm. “…Don’t drink that.”
Max nodded sagely as she sat down on the only chair in the room, a hard plastic chair with a back in immediate peril of falling off. Steve let her get as comfortable as she could as he dug the bright red first aid kit out of the back of the cupboard. He opened it up, looking for… what worked on bruises again?

After Neil leaves, Max comes to Family Video. She and Steve have a long conversation about Billy, as Max finally reckons with everything that happened in Cherry Lane. -

Summary
while trying to show billy that the season doesn’t have to mean what it did in neil’s house, he also attempts to revamp his relationship with mrs. harrington by introducing all the family he’s become apart of the last few years.
Steve and Billy have had very different experiences with Christmas, but neither have had particularly fond memories of the holiday. Steve sets out to change that after a difficult year that has had a lot of upheaval in both their lives, and in the process start anew with his mother.
Of course, to do that, he has to contend with Billy's refusal to get into the Christmas spirit...

Summary
The lack of sentiment wasn’t the problem with the Christmas card. He didn’t exactly expect sentimentality from his parents at this point. If he ever did get anything beyond a token message, he would probably be so alarmed he’d break his cardinal rule and call them up to ask who had died.
No, that wasn’t the problem. But the card left a bad taste in his mouth for three reasons.

Summary

The problem with such a whirlwind romance is that it didn’t last, and nor did his love for her. He had no idea how to maintain his affections, nor their relationship, and when little things started to annoy him, it wasn’t long before they turned into big things, and when the Big Thing came along, it spelled out their destruction.
That Big Thing was called Dustin Henderson.

Summary
Basically my way to cope with what Billy went through. POV Neil Hargrove, which, I guess, is a rare thing.
I want Neil HAUNTED. He'll be old and memories will play on repeat in his mind. That scene on the beach. How he could have done things differently. The words that he could have told his son. The hand that wouldn't be grabbing his son's arm with force, but just a reassuring hold on his shoulder. How he COULD have done things, but now he'll never get a chance. Because Billy's dead. Died a heroic death in the Starcourt fire.
(Billy isn't dead ofc, but Neil doesn't know it cos he left Hawkins for good and didn't leave a trace.)
And Neil will be bitter and lonely, and oh my god, it is so damn hard to admit that you were wrong. And when Neil dies, it doesn't get easier for him.
Because if you do something like that to your child, it backfires. Eventually. Sometimes for eternity.
