“Are we sure Hyrule isn’t flat?”
“Oh, Goddesses,” Tetra moans into her palms, fingers digging into her forehead, “not this again, Niko!”
“I’m just saying!” Niko defends, leaning far over the fire they built on the beach, his ale sloshing over the rim of his chipped cup and stoking the flame high enough that Nudge has to pull him away before his bandana ignites. “Have any of you ever seen the curve?”
OR
Tetra, Link, and the crew have been at sea for a decade, in search of new lands. Niko doesn’t make it easy.

“What name should I put on the cup?” He doesn’t have to ask it, she’s the only customer, but he just wants to know her name. He wants to know why she braved the cold at midnight just to come here and order a hot chocolate.
“My name’s Zelda.”
Zelda, Link repeats, mouthing it to himself. He nods, says aloud, “Nice to meet you, Zelda.”
Her eyes dip to his name tag, hanging crooked on his apron, and her smile widens. “You too, Link.”
OR
Link owns a coffee shop that's open twenty four hours. Zelda is the first insomniac to take advantage of it.

"This time period doesn't seem to have one," Zelda explains, "and the Master Sword is the only thing that could harm Ganondorf in my time, when he was empowered by the secret stone he stole. The Master Sword predates this kingdom, predates life as we all know it, and it slumbers nearby, waiting for a wielder. I'm going to make it a worthy hand."

Hyrule needs a miracle to turn the tide of the Imprisoning War. Zelda, having accepted her fate of never returning home, makes one.

Summary
The song fades, and there’s applause as he releases Mipha back to her attendants. He bows as he lets her go, his lips brushing over the back of her knuckles to honor the custom, and as another song begins the room turns to Zelda, who has the privilege of his final dance.
Link’s eyes are on her. There’s nothing in his face, no remorse in his gaze, only the blank acceptance he wore when she told him they were through. The sword that sliced them apart taunts her, its hilt twinkling behind his twitching ear as it no doubt whispers to him in a voice she will never hear. He holds out his hand.
Zelda swallows, feels Impa’s sympathetic eyes on her cheek, and crosses the room to take it.
“Hero of Hyrule,” she greets stiffly, looking him in the eye.
“Princess.” His eyes linger on her mouth before they flick up to meet hers. He lifts her hand in the air and places his other on her waist. His touch burns through his white leather gloves and all seven layers of her clothing. “How are you faring tonight?”

The claiming of the Master Sword rips them apart. A month later, Link is assigned Zelda's appointed knight.

Summary
Her form is impeccable as she twists and leaps around her chosen battlefield, thrusting her sword every which way like she’s trying to escape an imaginary bloodbath. Zelda has never seen this knight before, where has she been all this time? Surely she would have noticed her in the castle with how striking her presence is, how…good she looks with a weapon in her hand and something she wants to kill.
Unbidden, Zelda imagines what this woman would look like with a streak of blood on her cheek and kneeling before her throne, looking up at her with pure devotion in those unnaturally blue eyes with Your Majesty on her lips. She wants to know this woman’s name. She wants to feel calloused hands cradle hers and have those lips touch her knuckles as this knight swears fealty until the end of time. She wants—
“My apologies, Your Majesty,” A rough, damaged voice comes from below, “I failed to realize how loud I was being.”

After a Yiga ambush nearly gone wrong, Princess Zelda is in need of another bodyguard. The castle opens up applications to all of Hyrule, and a woman from Hateno might just fit the bill.
It just so happens that she's the most attractive person Zelda has ever met.
