Lestat de Lioncourt has a lot to worry about right now: an impending world tour, a freshly raw relationship being reknit between him and Louis, and a journalist up his ass everywhere he turns. He hardly has enough time to breathe, let alone take care of another creature. Adding a depressed ancient vampire to the mix seems like a recipe for disaster, and maybe it is. “... I do wish it was you,” Armand continues, smiling at him and lacing his fingers through Lestat’s. “Even in Marius’ stead. You’ve never hurt me so, not for all I did to deserve it. To you, it is a form of art to make love. And I wish I was him—for you, to not have been hurt so badly.”
“I did hurt you very badly once,” Lestat reminds him.
“Yes, well. I got better.”
They sit in silence for some time. Armand kneads gently along Lestat’s shoulder and back muscles, content with the task, letting him relax incrementally. He leaves him to the silence, waits for Lestat to fill the space, as he always does. It’s inevitable.
“Well, how would you have done it?”

Lestat nods vigorously and flattens his hands on the table. Winnie takes in the sight of his long fingernails and shimmering rings. “I am your student,” says Lestat. "Miss Winnie.”
Louis introduces Lestat to some old friends from Storyville. Lestat realizes he doesn't know what it means to be a man.
