A breeze sweeps into the restaurant and he pours himself another cup of tea to keep warm. He can’t think of anything Hua Cheng would enjoy being a spectator to—especially that Shi Qingxuan would have any knowledge of. It wouldn’t be something ridiculous like dancing or singing. Perhaps sparring? But where’s the fun if he’s not taking part? He sips his tea slowly.
Shi Qingxuan, pouting and clearly reading his silence as confusion, says in their private array, “Watch us in bed.”

He Xuan sullenly stirred the boba beads in his tea. A rare break in his appetite, the whole fiasco of last night still hung over his head like a dying goose.
“He-xiong?” Shi Qingxuan’s elbows rested on the table, a curl of hair twisted around his finger. He reached out and poked He Xuan in the cheek. “He-xiong, He-xiong, are you going to be sad about this all day?”
He lifted a shoulder.
“Oh, honestly.” Shi Qingxuan’s chair scraped loudly across the tied floor as he shifted around the table. “We’re supposed to be having a fun date.”
“So?”
“So! So, stop sulking about your crush and pay attention to me, your actual boyfriend.” Shi Qingxuan sniffed, head tilted up. He Xuan watched him, until an eye swung around to meet with his. And Shi Qingxuan’s attitude melted. Putting down his tea, He Xuan held out his hands and let Shi Qingxuan take them. “...I promise that Hua Cheng is too caught up in Xie-gege to even think about dating you.”
“Thanks.”
“I mean-” Shi Qingxuan chuckled, anxiously squeezing He Xuan’s hands. “You know what I mean! He probably already assumed that you meant to text me.”

Blinking, he stared at the bed where only a robe laid. It was folded almost in half, as if laid out to resemble a person sleeping.
Except...the bed wasn’t unoccupied. Shi Qingxuan eyes slid open further as he leaned over the bed. A small lump beneath the slick, sleeping garb moved. Up and down. Like a small animal, kitten-sized, was resting beneath it. Almost amused by the idea of the the terrifying Black Water Sinking Ships finding and bringing home small animals to put in his bed, Shi Qingxuan reached his hand into the robes collar and pulled it down to see…
Messy, silken hair was tousled about his head, face peaceful with a deep sleep. A pale shoulder peeked out from the web of pitch hair. Tiny. Shi Qingxuan - in all his many centuries - had never seen anything quite like this. Last night, He Xuan had been about four or so inches shorter than he was supposed to be, but...now he was probably only half an arm’s length tall. Curled up, laying in the puddle of his clothing which had not changed size. Quickly, Shi Qingxuan covered him back up, then stepped away from the bed, flapping a hand to calm himself.

When you dropped me off, cold and alone?” He Xuan pauses his eating. The way his shoulders tense, it almost makes him look as frail as those jade teacups. Shi Qingxuan answers for him, since He Xuan cannot. “We owe nothing to each other, anymore. All debts written off the ledger.”
“...then, why do you wish to talk to me at all?”
“To see why you are here,” Shi Qingxuan answers, honestly. “I do wonder why, if we are really done with each other. Back then, you seemed very intent on wiping your hands clean of the entire situation.”
He Xuan remains stubbornly silent. Shi Qingxuan is not surprised.
“Your reasoning remains inscrutable,” he whispers. “I suppose that is how you like things. Does it make you feel more in control? When only you know the truth of your intentions? Ah. I have to leave, He Xuan. I suppose I will see you again when I come to the mortal realm. That is where I always find you following me.” Getting up, Shi Qingxuan leaves the table and exits the teahouse.
