“The club isn’t the problem,” Eddie mumbles, staring across the dance floor, where Buck is curving his hand around the woman’s head and whispering in her ear.
“Is the problem that your wingman is a traitor?” Ravi asks, snickering at the sight.
“No. The problem is I don’t want to pick up women.” Eddie really hopes that’s enough information. Ravi is a smart guy. He kind of hopes he’ll piece it together. Though another part of him, a soft, new part of him, hopes Ravi doesn’t. He hopes he has to say it. He should probably get some practice in, right?
Ravi looks at him then, studying him. “You’re really happy being single?”
Eddie exhales. Smiles small and shakes his head.
“No, it’s not that,” he says. “I’m just gay.”
OR Eddie comes out at the club during 9x07. Just not to Buck.

Buck grants him a cheeky grin, but nevertheless, he picks up his wine glass and takes a sip while squeezing Eddie’s hand back.
It’s in that exact moment that Buck suddenly feels a presence looming over him. A familiar presence. There’s an excitable, yet calming voice and a hand slapping him on his shoulder.
“Eddie! Buck! What’s up, guys?” the person exclaims.

Eventually, so soft that Buck almost misses it, Eddie says, “We could kiss.”
The words hit Buck like a freight train. His eyes widen. All he can hear ringing on repeat in his head is Maddie’s voice telling him it wouldn’t be so crazy.
But Buck can’t be in love with Eddie.
And Eddie isn’t in love with him.
“Uh, what?” Buck coughs once he finally remembers how to speak again.
Eddie shrugs, his eyes dance around the air. “I mean, I also haven’t kissed anyone on New Year’s in… God— honestly, it feels like forever. It could be nice.”
Buck gulps. He has to manually tell his body to breathe. “It could be nice? Kissing me would be nice?” he blurts out.
“Yeah, could be,” Eddie says, shakily. He finally looks back up at Buck, his gaze afraid.
OR: Buck and Eddie kiss at midnight, but it’s not entirely platonic.

He turns fully toward Eddie, because if Eddie’s gonna drop something on him, Buck’s going to look directly at it. No mercy.Eddie blinks – once, twice – the only crack in his cool.
“A while back, an army buddy invited me to his wedding. Figured by the time it rolled around, I’d… have someone.” He breathes out through his nose. “So I put down a plus one.”
Buck loses it a little. Not out loud, not dramatically. Just this bright grin that won’t quit.
“The wedding’s Saturday. If you don’t have plans… you wanna come with me?”
Buck’s smile falters. His chest does this weird, traitorous flutter he absolutely did not authorize.
“Yeah,” he blurts, fast enough to shut down whatever escape hatch Eddie’s about to open. “Yes. Sure. I mean– yeah.”
The one where Eddie invites Buck as his plus one to his buddy’s wedding, and it’s all fun and games…until it absolutely isn’t.

During the on-ice celebrations, Captain Scott Hunter, long known as one of New York's most eligible bachelors, invited an unknown man down from the stands. What happened next made history: on center ice, in front of a sold-out crowd and countless cameras, Hunter kissed the man, now identified as Hunter’s partner Kip Grady, and became the first out active player in the MLH.
Two weeks later, Hunter agreed to sit down with OUT’s Jessica Liu for an interview. The following has been lightly edited for clarity.
