Summary: After many years spent leading separate lives, Bashir and Garak reconnect on an isolated planet. Meanwhile, in a cubicle far from the final frontier, a call center worker tells their own stories to survive.
Written for those who feel wronged and aggrieved by the showrunners’ refusal to pursue the textualization of Garashir. This isn't fluff, but it is an attempt toward some kind of justice.
Also for those interested in: otherness, alienation, dubious Federation politics, rewritings, and surviving the here and now.
Explicit content is opt-in (you'll see) and the story is completely legible without it, hence the "M" rating.

Bringing the Romulans into the war and all that that entailed left Garak elated. Sisko hadn’t needed to ask, Garak had anticipated. He hadn’t felt this dangerous in years.
When Julian comes to confront him about the bio-mimetic gel and a handful of loose suspicions, Garak is prepared. His story will be the perfect balance of lies and misdirection and technical truths. He’s even prepared to sacrifice deeper, personal truths for the sake of keeping the conspiracy hidden. Besides, Garak has his own suspicions about what draws Julian to him, despite everything that Garak is, despite everything that he’s done.
