Summary
Orym turns around and thunks his head against the soup pot.
"That’s terrible," he says, hoping Will can’t see the grin that’s threatening to split his face in half.
"I'm not wrong," Will says, delight beaming through his voice as a board clatters down on the bench and two strong arms wrap around him from behind. "It’s us, babe!"
"No, no, absolutely not," says Orym, with as much affected disdain as he can manage when squeezed up against his husband, which is not very much at all. "I am not an onion—"
On a cool Yulisen evening in autumn, Orym gets home from work, Will has a semi-successful trip to the market, and together, they make soup.

Summary
It's been three weeks since the protective charms surrounding Orym were dispelled, and the curse sank its barbs into him. Three weeks since those agonising hours as bone grew and joints coaslesced and new wings tore their way out of his back.
Three weeks since he turned overnight from a lithe and graceful soldier into an ordinary halfling with too-big wings, stumbling around as clumsily as any baby bird.

Summary
Twenty-five words. Orym closes his eyes and traces over the glyphs again, catching his thumbnail in the grooves, working his way around the pattern they make. Sometimes he plans messages for days, ensuring he can tell Dorian everything important. Every time, there are things he needs to leave out. Words he wishes desperately that he could say.
It's a quiet night. He presses his thumb over the large rune in the centre of the stone, and opens his eyes to see it glow, bright as the North Star. He breathes in, with intent.
Orym can't sleep for the weight in his chest; a weight made of words he hasn't dared to be selfish enough to say.

Summary
“The bread definitely knows if you don’t think it’s going to work,” Orym had said, taking a hold of the dough after Dorian asked him to check it and giving it another few firm kneads on the bench. “Just have some faith it’s going to turn out okay. And besides…”
He gave Dorian a wry grin. “Worst that can happen is it’s so bad, Pâté V gets to enjoy it instead.”
In which the air of Sugar Moon Bakery is as heady with magic as it is with butter and sugar and yeast, expectations weigh heavy on even the hardiest of shoulders, and Dorian Storm makes cinnamon rolls.

Summary
Alonzo and Munkustrap have been best friends since they were young and carefree. They're older now - Munkustrap is the Protector of the junkyard, Alonzo his not-always-that-enthusiastic-about-his-role second-in-command. Between the growing threat of Macavity, more relationship tensions and confusions between their friends (and themselves) than you could shake a stick at, curious cats being too curious for their own good, and climate change, there's more than enough for the pair of them to deal with - and sometimes, far, far too much (considering they're neither of them even three summers old yet).
And somewhere along the way, Alonzo fell head-over-heels in love with Munkustrap. So there's that as well.

Summary
(Alternately (kind of) titled: Five times that David and Jack were oblivious about basically being married and/or parents and the one time it was so obvious even these idiots noticed)
“Youse talk funny,” one of the kids said suspiciously when Jack had introduced him to the mass of them a week or so after the strike, “youse sure you from ‘Hattan?”
Jack had thrown his head back and laughed while David cursed his pale complexion; it made the inevitable blush that much more visible. Though whether it was because of the question or the infectious smile that had lit up Jack’s face, he refused to think about.

Summary
"Racetrack Higgins likes what he's got. It's certainly not a castle but the Lodging House is a bed and food. He gets to spend most days at the races selling papes and watching the horses. He has Jack and Crutchie and the rest of the ’Hattan boys as family and he's got a Brooklyn boy, too, for back up when he needs it. The strike comes around and it fires him up even when it scares him.
So yeah, Race knows how he feels about the strike. It's what the strike brought along with it- or rather, who- that he's not as sure about. Race doesn't blame Davey for the strike but that doesn't mean he likes him."
-
In the year and a half after the strike, a lot changes. An exploration of Race's feelings towards Davey as Race gradually takes over Jack's responsibilities at the lodging house.

Bookmarker's Notes
gorgeous and gentle fjorclay in a fairytale that is built as carefully and lovingly as a beautiful garden. the supporting cast is delightful, the author hits such poignant emotional notes all throughout, and the ending made me believe in the power of true love. this is a fic I will return to again and again <3
