Summary

Summary

Summary
What greeted him was the sight of a tall stranger turned towards the stove, leaning down slightly to avoid hitting his head on the exhaust hood. He was deeply focused on tasting the dish from a spoon. Seemingly satisfied, he threw the spoon in the sink and swiftly made to turn around while licking some sauce off the base of his thumb. His eyes caught on Xie Lian standing awkwardly at the entrance and they made eye contact.

Summary
“I heard you got married.” San Lang says, all teasing gone, his voice even. “My congratulations.”
Xie Lian wishes his wedding was less public, but Jun Wu wanted to “do everything right”. If he knew back then how many times he’ll have to fake a smile and accept congratulations he would stand his ground.
San Lang’s congratulations sound more like condolences, for some reason. Xie Lian doesn’t ask, but doesn't bother to smile either.
“Thank you.” He says.

Summary
Xie Lian has already had the worst of days, losing his job on a cold, rainy night only to make his long way home and discover he's been kicked out of his temporary lodgings too.
He turns to Hua Cheng, who springs into action like he's been waiting for permission to help Xie Lian this whole time.
Accepting Hua Cheng's help puts Xie Lian into an impossible position, wanting to stay but unable to settle in, until an incident at work sparks a hope in Xie Lian that things can be different.
Yet he can't be so bold to ask for what he wants outright, and Xie Lian embarks on a five-step plan to take his own happiness with both hands.
...Too bad luck isn't on his side.
