Summary
Peter's been on his own for a long time. After his aunt and uncle died, and before that his parents, he refused to go into the system.
So, he ran.
When he realized he had become completely and utterly orphaned for the rest of his life, there wasn't much he could do about it. He didn't know of anybody who had superpowers to bring people back from the dead.
All he had was Spider-Man. Well, Spider-Man and the nice man who would bring him food every day. He'd been a little hesitant to accept at first, but then he'd realized that the man had been none other than Tony Stark, and so he started to feel a sort of obligation to accept whatever Mister Stark would bring him that day. And Mister Stark came every day.

Clint chuckled. “Laura’s used to it, the first time it happened it was a Russian enemy of the state so as far as she’s concerned it can’t get any worse. Besides,” he shrugged, “I think you’re the least trouble of the three I’m bringing home.”

All of Steve’s thoughts come squealing to a record-scratch stop as Natasha’s words catch up to him. The fathering type, she’d said. Fathering? And Tony hadn’t denied it. Not even a little bit. “Wait a minute. Was that… your… son?”

They attack the HYDRA safe house shortly before sunrise.
The only people defending said safe house are Peter and Leo, and Leo slams his cell door open and starts spitting out orders, but then promptly gets clobbered over the head and keels sideways.
So that just leaves Peter. And he’s not even going to try to fight a whole team of Avengers. He looks up at Iron Man filling the doorway. “I surrender.”

“But?”
“Apparently he doesn’t talk much. Sometimes not at all. Trauma-related.”
“A smart kid who doesn’t talk? Perfect combination. If only all my employees were like that.”

Summary
Peter knows that this is the last thing that Tony expects to happen: for him to walk into the lab unannounced in the middle of a regular Thursday morning – a school day, no less – with two black eyes and blood pouring down his front from a (probably) broken nose. The surprise on Tony’s face doesn’t give away whether Friday notified him to Peter’s arrival before his appearance in the lab or not. Under normal circumstances, it wouldn’t matter, but given Peter’s current state, he hopes his mentor at least had a warning.

Peter knows Tony doesn’t forget on purpose, and he knows that Tony means well with his concern. But, the man has to deal with the fact Peter isn’t a hero, and is in fact, a vigilante. If all he gets is a broken nose after a long night of patrol, Peter considers himself lucky.
A lot of vigilante things were lost on Tony, such as bad PR. Sure, the Avengers get some bad PR, but never J. Jonah. Jameson style, but then again, Spider-Man always had the best pictures, because Peter Parker gave them in for a bit of extra money.
There was some things you learn when you’re in Peter’s line of business, and that is, how to calm down a rape victim, how to help a lost child who doesn’t want help, who to punch harder than the rest, who are first time thieves, and that sometimes things like “don’t pull the knife out” is a rule best ignored, (unless it was somewhere bad bad).
You know Tony’s too far gone from the vigilante line of work, when it’s Pepper Potts, who tells Tony that a broken nose is the least of Peter’s worries, even though she too freaks out about it.Or;
5 times The Avengers (excluding Clint) forgot Peter Parker is a vigilante, and 1 time everyone remembered.

Country to popular belief, Tony remembered people’s names, at least a majority of the time.
His use of nicknames was a way to show people how much he cared. Anyone could call you by your given name, but a personalized nickname, that was a way to make someone feel really special.
Tony was careful about nicknames, while most of them were off the cuff, he knew exactly when to be funny and when to be caring with it. It was, in Tony’s opinion, a badge of honor to get a Tony Stark nickname.
Which is why the name just slipped off his tongue without a single thought.

peter had been moody the entire week of morgan’s 9th birthday on his break from his sophomore year at NYU, and tony had no fucking clue as to why.
not moody as in angry, which would be more understandable in some ways, if still confusing. but moody as in- well, depressed would be the word for that.
besides being sulky, he also hid behind a poor attempt at a mask half the time- tony could identify one of those- but his smiles didn’t reach his eyes, his feet dragged, and his eye-bags totally betrayed him.
peter is struggling, and it all comes to a head the night of his little sister's big day.
cue tony trying to figure out what's wrong, and an overdue late night conversation.
