    Disoriented, he couldn’t breathe. A thick substance surrounded him, rifling its way into his lungs. Spider swam to the surface, his hand breaking through first. He jerkily rose, his movement barely coordinated. Eyes snapped open to reveal the glow of an unnatural green, a hiss passing his lips.

    “Peter.” A voice said. A voice Spider didn’t recognise.

    Or another Peter in Gotham story but it starts a little differently.

    Tommy bares his teeth at him, just to play into it, and says, “She’s lying, you know. I will bite you.”

    “No, you won’t,” Kate says, teetering somewhere between annoyance and smugness. “Besides, you’re wrong. He’s more like…” she trails off, biting her lip, before grinning, all teeth. “Like a guard dog.”

    “A guard dog,” Eli repeats incredulously, and Tommy laughs, spinning the gun in his hands.

    “Ha! Yeah, right.”

    It starts as a joke from Kate, because of course it does. How else would it have started?
    (aka, the Young Avengers have their guard dog. Tommy doesn't mind the name. It's what he does, after all.)
