Lando looks back over his shoulder, then. Oscar’s face is still bunched up in a smile but he’s vertical again. The apples of his cheeks are soft and pink from the cold and his hair falls over his forehead in that cute way it always does. Dread curls low in Lando’s stomach when he looks back at Alex.
He gestures over his shoulder with his thumb, voice caught somewhere between worried and disbelieving. “Does he think I hate him?”
The words feel a little sickening coming out his mouth.

Summary
Lando’s usually good at answering his phone when he’s away from Gemma. He must be stuck in at work. Oscar’s stomach twist anxiously. He’s picked up Gemma from school before, not plenty, but he’s done it. Times when Lando’s work had run late, or traffic was bad.
But he’s never been alone in responsibility with her when she’s sick. What if he’s not the one she needs? What if she just wants Lando, but he’s unreachable at work? Oscar imagines sleepy eyes and red cheeks in his head before he replies.
“Yeah, of course – I'll come get her. Is she doing alright?”

Summary
Lando reaches out to her, rubbing her cheek with his thumb, skin feeling warm and damp. His heart aches at the sight of her, eyes pouting up at him. Rain hammers against the window too fast to soothe, and his head joins in, pounding with the rhythm.
“Oh, baby.” his hand goes to her messy curls. “C’mere” he urges, using the last of his remaining energy to scoot further back on the mattress to make space her.
He doesn’t get far before his back hits the solid of Oscar’s stomach. The action is followed by a long inhale as he startles a little awake behind him.
