“Look at me.”
“No.” Ghost responds quickly, breathes out the syllable as if it hurts him to say. Soap can picture the way his eyes must squeeze shut.
“Why?”
“‘Fraid of what you’ll see.”
There’s a feeling in his chest, buried deep within his rib cage and the meatiness of his heart. It feels like a stab, a bullet wound, a fist around him, squeezing and squeezing and squeezing. “Not afraid of you, Lt..”
The shake of Ghost’s head is abrupt. It jostles Soap’s hand, and he adjusts by shifting it down, touching the heel of his palm to the space between his shoulder blades. “‘Fraid of how I’ll look at you,” Ghost clarifies.
Soap takes another shuffling step forward, their bodies almost touching. “How are you gonna look at me?”
“Like a dying man looks at water.”

He was an attractive man, Soap has to acknowledge it. He’s not gay, but he would lie if he told he had never looked appreciatively at another man’s body. Lieutenant towered over most people, including John, and with his thick, strong frame he would be able to easily manhandle him. He never thought it would be something that could make him hot under the collar, literally, but apparently there was a lot of things he doesn’t know about himself. Summary
Price needs Ghost to lay low and the best he can do is Soap's cottage in the Scottish Highlands. In the quiet solitude, Ghost gives way to Simon as he reminisces about his past and the way The One-Four-One has changed him. The way Soap has changed him. Then one day, he stumbles upon Johnny's old journal.
Just a page or two, Ghost tells himself. Perhaps it'll be amusing to see what young Soap scribbled about. Maybe it'll provide some prime blackmail material he can tease Soap with during their missions.
He couldn't have been more wrong.
