Robin rolled her eyes, but a soft chuckle formed on her lips. “I could say the same about you,” she muttered. “Every time I found you among the crowd, you were dancing with some lady or other. Could the rumors of Prince Chrom finally settling with a spouse, tossing aside his life as a shepherd be actually true?”
Chrom laughed loudly, the mellifluous sound sending a shiver down Robin’s spine. It never ceased to amaze her how easily he could smile—even as they faced difficult times. “Not quite, I’m afraid,” he confessed, voice light. Robin watched with surprise as slowly pink colored his cheeks, his demeanor quickly changing as he continued. “Although I do have a proposal for you.”

“But I simply don’t think we’re each other’s type,” Inigo had murmured, his voice barely a whisper. The conversation he held with Noire lost to the night. Lost to the entire world’s ears, but not Lucina’s heart.
She tried to push the thought away as she listened to Henry, tried to keep her tears at bay as she watched Olivia walk towards them with two plates of fresh dinner, her shy smile sending a thrill through Lucina’s heart. It was just so much like Inigo’s, like that shy, gentle smile he would share only with her in the dark of the night.
But she and Inigo were nothing like each other, and perhaps in the end he was right. Perhaps she was truly just a stern and sometimes cynical young woman, while he was the warm and shining light that kept them from fully falling into cold despair at the end of every difficult battle—the loud laughter of his father that echoed through the camp, the elegant and inspiring dancing of his mother that soared vigorously through everyone’s hearts; while she was only the afterthought of her father’s bravery, and the footnote of her mother’s beauty.

There were plenty a species he could find in that waterfall. From little pink butterflies, to magnificent moths he had never seen in any place before. They would flutter around him, dance to the rhythm of his own songs; and on very lucky occasions they would lay atop his head, or caress his cheeks and flowy hair. They were his only company on these lonely autumn evenings, his friends in those sacred moments when there was no one else in the world. He had named each of them after his childhood friends, ladies he had met in his travels, and the respectful generals he and his friends deemed as their parents. All of them had a name except one, the bright, blue butterfly who fluttered on top of the cascade--the one he could never dare reach, the one he could never dare speak to.
