Summary
Dear Captain Nash,
I know this email is kind of out of the blue, but I didn’t know who else to reach out to. I’m not even sure how to start this email. One time Buck and I signed up for this pen pal program, but the kid in Maine I was writing with gave up after two rounds of letters. It was during my ancient Egypt phase and I think I scared him off with my questions about mummies. Buck told me I was too cool for him anyway.
or
When Chris starts going to church in Texas he reaches out to the only person he can think of who might have some answers, meanwhile Eddie uses his email to try and talk to God, and Buck... well Buck online shops mostly.
A season 8 rewrite told only through email.

Summary
Buck goes missing, and Eddie goes crazy.
-----
Eddie came home expecting to step right into Buck’s open arms, to hear the soft gravel of his laugh, to finally fucking breathe for the first time since Chris walked out the front door and Buck held Eddie up with a hand on his shoulder. He expected to show up at Bobby and Athena’s new house tomorrow night for a welcome back party he wasn’t supposed to know of but had already heard about from Buck, Ravi (by accident, since he assumed Buck had already told Eddie), and Denny via Chris (he wanted to ask Chris what games he should bring over). He expected life to go back to normal, to how it used to be.
Instead, all he has is a pit in his stomach and a lump in his throat and a heart beating too fast, even while he’s standing still. He doesn’t panic, but for Buck, he might take up the habit.
“He’ll be okay, Eddie,” Bobby says, and when Eddie just hums noncommittally, he adds, “When have you ever not known him to be fine?”
“You want a list?” Eddie jokes, though he actually does have one, and each bullet point carries an addendum that says Eddie wasn’t there to keep him safe.

Summary
Buck runs, and Eddie follows.
-----
It’s been over two months of chasing Buck across the country, from state to state to state, following a trail he suspects Buck doesn’t realize he’s dropping breadcrumbs on. If he did, Eddie worries he’d stop sending the postcards, and they’re his only clues. Buck left his phone in his apartment back in Los Angeles. If he’s gotten a new one, he hasn’t shared the number with anyone—not Maddie, not Chris, and certainly not Eddie.
So Eddie lays in a too-soft bed in a too-small cabin in the middle of bumfuck Nebraska, the first grey light of dawn creeping its fingers past the dusky pink curtains, and reads the postcard again. He knows what it says by heart, but it makes him feel a little less alone to hear Buck’s voice in his head.

Summary
And it’s probably the wrong thing to say, but Christopher is just— he’s so angry, he’s so angry and he wants to lash out at someone.
“I wish you and Dad had never even met!” With that, Christopher actually goes into his room, and Buck doesn’t stop him, or say anything.
He lays down on his bed, burying his face in his pillow, and finally lets out the rest of the tears he’d been holding back.

Summary
“Daddy!” Ellie calls for him, and Buck spins around, smile stretching over his face.
“Ellie!” he calls back, opening his arms and crouching a little so he can catch her when she takes a leap. He spins her around once before he sets her back down onto her feet. “Hi, sweetheart, how was school?”
“It was good,” she says, slipping her small hand into his. “But I’m excited to go home.”
“Yeah?” he asks. “Because we’re hanging out with the Diazes?”
She grins up at him. “Yes! And because we’re making lasagna.”
Buck laughs, and, over his shoulder, calls to Eddie and Christopher, “You guys hear that? You’re gonna have to compete with the lasagna for Ellie’s attention.”
“Ohh, lasagna,” Christopher says dreamily, and Buck and Eddie grin at each other.
