"Ever mended a fence before, Marston?" Arthur's voice slithered into John's awareness, a nail hanging nonchalantly from his lips as if it were a cigarette. Effortlessly, he retrieved the piece of metal from his mouth and pressed it into the wood, guiding his hammer with a sure hand and sinking the nail home with a satisfying thud.
Patience was a virtue that John Marston was still getting the hang of, aware that his flare-ups rarely led to good. He normally had a better grip on his biting tongue, but the words slipped past his guard, uncaged and free. The man at his side was proving to be a right pain in the ass. “Ever taken a punch to the jaw, Arthur?”
AU where John Marston never joined the Van der Linde gang, and meets Arthur Morgan on his own terms.
