Summary
"Heisenberg?!" Ethan lowers his gun, feeling suddenly, horribly tired. "What the hell are you doing here?"
"Nice to see you too, Ethan." Ethan's first name practically drips out of Heisenberg's mouth. He's been using a dinner plate as an ashtray, Ethan notices—the kind of minor detail the mind focuses on in moments of extreme stress (god, he's probably lucky the bastard bothered to find himself an ashtray at all).
But Heisenberg's still talking: "Dropped by, you weren't home, so I let myself in. Wouldn't want me loitering around your porch, bringing down the neighbourhood, would you?"
Ethan grits his teeth. He'd actually forgotten just how annoying Heisenberg could be. "Which still doesn't explain what the hell you're doing here."

Summary
Hans is still turning this over in his head when Henry looks at him and says, "Did you know too? Did you... god damn it, is that why you changed your mind about me?"
Hans is officially at a loss. He's being accused of something, but Henry is clearly too drunk to make sense. "Henry, for god's sake, start from the beginning, will you? Did I know what?"
"About me and Sir Radzig," Henry insists, as if it should be obvious. "That he's my real father!"
During the siege of Talmberg, Henry finds himself with space to sit and process for the first time in much too long, and Hans finds Henry.

Summary
"You know," he tells Henry, as they amble away from the tavern, arms around one another's shoulders. "I think I'm finally starting to understand how you never learned to behave in the presence of a lord. Clearly you were too distracted learning everything else!"
Henry gives him an indulgent smile. "Well, lucky me, that I've been assigned someone to help me with that." He nudges Hans with an elbow. "I'm sure I'll get the hang of it in no time."
"You are lucky, you know," Hans informs him, and it's so very unfair that Henry seems so much less drunk than he is, when it wasn't Hans who was drinking spirits all night. "You could learn a lot from me!"
"Oh yes?" Henry's eyes twinkle in the torchlight. "How not to kill a boar with a bow, for instance?"
In which Hans is not offended that Henry is better than him at almost everything, but he is very keen to introduce Henry to certain skills he's been neglecting, and which Hans is uniquely qualified to help him improve.

Summary
Good lord. Hans had thought he'd gotten to know Henry pretty well, since that first fateful hunting trip, but he'd had no idea he was travelling with a compulsive gardener. "So now you can't even set up camp by a nettle patch without the urge to start weeding getting the better of you?"
Henry shrugs. "It's like that, when you know a bit about herbs! You can't stop noticing them. I'm not about to go after every last marigold we pass, it's just when you see a really thick patch of something... it's like trying to ignore a pile of groschen sitting right there in the open!"
Hans folds his arms. "So when we were riding out of Talmburg, and I tried to talk to you about how far you'd come from digging turnips in a field somewhere, and you told me you never dug turnips, you were a blacksmith...?"
"You've got to dig around the turnips!" Henry insists, slightly aghast. "No-one's going to let me weed their field if I go pulling up their tubers!"

Summary
"So," says Bartosch, when Henry doesn't immediately go on. "You and Hans, are you...?"
"No!" Henry's response comes too fast, if anything. "God, no. He's got no idea that I..."
"...say his name while in the arms of other men?"
Bartosch is remarkably understanding when Henry accidentally calls him by the wrong name during their night together, provided Henry is prepared to explain exactly how it came about.

Summary
“Let me get a better look,” Bartosch takes a knee in front of Henry, slotted right between his laxed thighs while he reaches up and takes Henry’s face in his hands. He looks up at the wound and hums contemplatively. “It might need sutures. Fortunately for you, I’m handy with a needle and thread.”
Familiar isn’t the word for this, Hans thinks. This is… more. Much more. It’s tender. Intimate. Like…
Hans feels his face fill with heat while the rest of him goes cold. His feet suddenly feel as though they’re buried in the earth, unable to lift them up—it’s the same sort of trapped, panicked feeling he gets when he’s in small, cramped spaces.
Just what the fuck is going on here?
Or, Hans catches Black Bartosch flirting with Henry and gets jealous.

Summary
“What are you here for, Michael?” he asks. His voice is low and mocking, but it doesn’t sound like he’s only mocking Michael. It sounds like he’s mocking himself. Like he’s mocking both of them at the same time.
Michael is silent. He doesn’t know.
He had to.
He had to see David. He got bitten and he had to see David.
When Michael gets bitten and turned by a werewolf, no pack will have him because of his previous association with vampires, so he goes to the only supernatural being he knows—David—even though they hate each other. Don't they? It's kind of hard to tell.

Summary
Michael spends a few more nights than he expected in the company of the boys, doing his best to hold onto his humanity. The strange little group ends up being more than he bargained for, and that’s before he finds out about Max – or rather, before Max finds out about him.
(David has plans Max doesn’t necessarily like, Laddie gets co-parented by a gang of casually polyamorous vampires, and Michael is in so far over his head he can’t process any of it. The E rating is there for a reason.)
