It's the night of November 18th, 20XX.
Tomorrow, Goro Akechi is going to enter another world with seven acquaintances and one Akira Kurusu, and betray them all. It'll make the first and final defeat for his one and only rival. He's been planning this for months, and it ends tomorrow night. He's been planning for his father's election for years, and it ends a month from now. So many endings, so soon, if only his well-rehearsed plans go off without a hitch.
It's just gone past eleven, and there's a knock on his apartment door.
It's a hitch.

Summary
After a falling out with his parents regarding his future, Ren Amamiya enrolls in a culinary arts academy in the United States.
There, miles across the sea, he has a chance encounter with Goro Akechi, who’d left him with a single glove and the memory of a bitterly cold winter evening.
…He also learns that Akechi really can’t cook to save his life, nor can he afford takeout at the moment.
Ren, eager to prove himself beyond curry and coffee, needs a harsh critic in order to hone his culinary skills. Someone who won’t just nod politely and choke down whatever’s on the plate.
So, they strike up another deal.
Ren will prepare a new dish each time they meet. Akechi will taste it, and give his verdict.
If Ren can get Akechi to rank any meal an honest ten out of ten, then that means he’s succeeded.It’s a simple deal. And nothing could possibly complicate things.

What are the odds Akira's best friend who's also his drug dealer who's also his hopeless crush might actually reciprocate his perhaps ill-advised feelings? Not great, he's convinced himself. Stunningly bad, in fact.
So—since this theory is obviously infallible—what's the harm in testing it? Any good mathematician would, and any actuary worth their salt would have no excuse not to, if only to calculate the risks at play. Nothing's going to happen, surely.
