Summary
The brief eclipsing of Jack's heterosexuality was an inevitability when Eric's Halloween costume incidentally has him swooning — Eric looking this goddamn good ought to be criminal.
He can't tell if it's luck on his side or an unintended torture when they're goaded to kiss each other, all on full display for the biggest party of the year.

Summary
One thing about Jack is he will never let himself lose a dare, even if it is to his detriment… and even if the dare sees him unfortunately hand-in-hand with his best friend, Eric, where he knows it has no other choice but to go downhill.
All he wishes is that his pride had let him back down enough to say no, especially when he finds it tests everything he thought he knew about himself and where his feelings lie with Eric.
(Eric challenges the fragile threads of Jack's internalized homophobia with a dare of gay chicken. Gay panic ensues.)

“So, what about you? How’s your week been?” Eric asked, raising his coffee for another sip.
“My house burned down.”
Eric froze before the cup could reach his lips. “Are…are you good?”
“I mean, all things considered, yeah. I’ve been staying at a hotel. That plus my recent unemployment, it’s almost like a vacation.”
“...Dude. That’s the saddest thing I’ve ever heard.”
“Yeah, it is, isn’t it?” Jack could only chuckle at his own misfortune.
“Why didn’t you tell me until now?”“There was nothing you could have done about it.”
“Are you kidding? I mean, you can stay at the hotel if you want, but…you could stay with me instead. Until you find another place.”
“...Really?”
“Yeah. Just like the old days, right?”
Fear tugged at Jack. It had been so long. They were such different people. What if they weren't compatible anymore? What if he showed up and it was nothing like before?
And yet…it was either that or going back to the hotel.
“Yeah. Like the old days. I'll do it.”
