“I’m good, thanks, though,” Chan smiles from his mixing table, not looking up, and Hyunjin can’t have that. “You’re sweet for asking.”
“Not that sweet,” Hyunjin admits as he strolls up to his boyfriend and puts his hands on either side of Chan’s laptop, careful not to accidentally touch anything important. “Came for attention.”
“Attenti--?” Chan echoes in confusion, then cuts himself off when he finally looks up.
Hyunjin’s stomach just about flips inside out.
“Yeah?” he laughs, giddy inside.

“Happy anniversary, babe,” Chan teases, and Minho scoffs his way into his laughter.
“Happy anniversary, Chan-ah,” Minho says, and Hyunjin does a tiny wormlike-but-happy wiggle over the exchange.
“Happy first anniversary to you, Hyunjinnie,” Chan adds when he turns back to their boyfriend, who seems more than a little pleased with the night’s events.
“Happy first anniversary to me,” Hyunjin agrees in a cute voice that has Minho rolling his eyes again before leaning in to take Hyunjin’s chin and hold him until Minho is done kissing him, which takes a good number of seconds.

Chan pauses. Not because Hyunjin sounds upset or accusing somehow, but because he sounds a little bit skeptical and a lot hopeful. Not necessarily like he needs the reassurance, but… well, reassurance doesn’t hurt, right?
“I think we’ve brought you up six to eight times since you left last night,” Minho states, rather bluntly, while fixing the blanket across his legs. “So, yes, really. Again, why would we lie about that? Yes, we miss you. I told you that weeks ago.”
“It was flattering then, not life and death!” Hyunjin whines through the phone, and Minho snickers at the dramatics.

Minho takes a minute to look at her. Chan trusts him, his judgement—probably more than she trusts herself. She knows Minho won’t mince words, he won’t hold back just to spare her feelings.
“You’re not selfish for wanting your own life, Chan-ah,” he says finally and Chan shivers. The fact that they both ignore the age difference between them always sends a bolt of heat through her, even though it shouldn’t. The reminder is nice—that’s all. That she has someone in her corner. Someone who doesn’t mind taking care of her even though he’s a year younger.
Chan shrugs. Feels that ever present sadness well up in her again. “It feels like it,” she murmurs.
