Vi looked up to meet Kiramman's gaze. “Your what?” She asked her, raising an eyebrow. What the hell is this rich unhinged mongoose babbling about?
“Has the din of your stupid motorcycle made you deaf?” Kiramman retorted sharply. “I asked you,” she looked frowningly at Vi. “What are you doing to my cat?” She repeated, crossing her arms and towering in all her height.
Or as Vi called it 'in all her haughty bitchiness'.
Vi got up from where she was crouched next to the cat to face Kiramman. “One,” she almost growled. “My bike is not stupid.” She took another step toward her; Kiramman did not flinch. “Two, this,” she pointed to the black cat. “It's my cat!”

The only thing Vi and Caitlyn agreed about was that they couldn't stand each other.
A major misunderstanding will trigger a feud between the two neighbors, becoming each other's nemesis.

“Oh,” Jinx says knowingly, glancing Vi’s way out of the corner of her eye. “That’s the, uh, the cop girl, right? Maddie’s ex?”
A chorus of mutters and nods is the response.
“I’m being warned about her,” Vi tells her sister and Jinx blows her bangs out of her face.
“Good,” she says, almost snappishly. “Yeah, don’t date cop girl. You should date someone cool.”
“I’m not going to date anyone, not for a while. I need to get back on my feet first,” says Vi, drumming her fingers against the condensation of the glass. Thinking of Cupcake in her contacts, and that teasing smile.
Everything in Vi’s life right now is starting over. She’s spending the holidays on her sister’s pull-out futon, trying to make sense of the avalanche of changes, salvage what’s left of her family and figure out what she’s going to do next. The last thing she expects to do is include the beautiful woman she runs into on her first day in town, or this Caitlyn that everyone’s warning her to stay away from.

Vi felt her face go so hot she was sure that it was visibly steaming in the winter air. Of course it was a fucking wrong number - just the cherry on top of an already shit morning. She struggled to conjure up some sort of apology. Instead, what came out was, “Oh. Well, thank god, because I was feeling really bad about yelling at someone who sounds so sexy.”
As soon as the words left her mouth she wished she had a spare hand to cram them back inside. She was considering just abruptly hanging up when a breathy chuckle filtered across the line.
“Awfully bold for someone who’s ranting about cement to a stranger at eight o’clock in the morning.”

With a slightly screwed up expression that meant she was about to argue back, Caitlyn sat back in her seat and crossed her arms again, giving a little shrug.

Believing they keep attracting shallow dates, Vi and Caitlyn separately agree to go ‘undercover’ for their next one, hiding parts of themselves. When they’re unknowingly set up with each other, they both struggle between wanting to being authentic and wanting to stubbornly prove a point, as they’re forced to rely on their personalities to make the relationship work.
