Summary
Dumbledore doesn't make it in time for Harry's trial, and the outcome is very different. Harry is expelled, his wand snapped.
But he refuses to give up. And he is done waiting around for Albus Dumbledore to give him information.
Deciding to take his life into his own hands, Harry asks for training from several Order members, preparing himself to fight Voldemort while the whole wizarding world believes he's helpless and back in the muggle world.
Meanwhile, his friends are at Hogwarts, tackling their own problems in the form of Dolores Umbridge. Harry hadn't expected the separation to be so difficult - or for a certain mischievous redhead to make the waiting game they'd entered into so very excruciating.
He might have lost his home in Hogwarts, but with Sirius and Remus around, Harry begins to learn that rebuilding a family isn't as hard as he'd anticipated.

Summary
The Hidden Leaf Village in Naruto's time seems to have forgotten just why the village was founded and have lost their way. Through a mishap with a hiraishin seal, Tobirama finds himself during Naruto's time and he is having none of this nonsense. His brother may be gone, but he won't stand to have Hashirama's dream trampled so.
And if he has to cause a civil war or burn the village down to the ground? Well that depends on how much resistance he meets.
All Tobirama does know for certain is that no child will suffer underneath the protection of Konoha and if he has to take them in and care for them himself, then he will.
**here's to hoping updating existing chapters doesn't send out update alerts/emails. I'm doing some sporadic editing of this fic. Just some grammar, punctuation, and small facts. Sorry if I confuse anyone.**

Rather splendid Tolkien AU which starts from Thorin reliving the quest and spirals out from there to encompass both The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings. There's even a redemption arc for Smeagol/Gollum. Note that there's only one explicitly romantic pairing and it's het, though there are a few more implied.

A rather lovely alternate universe version of Naruto, in which the Hatake family (Sakumo and Kakashi) are female instead of male and many things are better in Konoha because of that one fact. Some tragedies are still unavoidable, so it's not completely fluff, but it's still a lovely version of Konoha set chronologically before the canon events.

Epic Buffy Alternate Universe centered around the pairing of Angel/Xander starting from the very beginning of the show. There is a mild crossover with the Sentinel that gradually becomes more significant especially in the third part.
Some of the pairings become quite curious as the series progresses, including multi polyamorous relationships. -

Intriguing story about an android Coulson, which takes place mostly before or early on in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (aka pre-Avengers).

Summary
No species is all good or all evil. The tok'ra like to believe they are the "good" side of the onac race--the symbiotes who developed into the goa'uld. However, the tok'ra never mention Shamash or Samas, the ancient Sumerian god who was really one of the early queens. She (or really Samas prefers to be called a he) remembers the onac before the corruption of Ra, and he tried to lead his people back to a life in the water. He failed. However, thousands of years later, one gunnery sergeant on a suicide mission stumbled into a South American river, and Samas found he had another chance. The SGC and later Atlantis gave Samas a chance to save his people and make a few changes for the better in this universe. Samas once allowed Ra to take everything away from him. This time Samas is going to make sure his people are strong enough to stand up to any enemy. And to serve that end, he's going to make sure that those that he trusts--Tony, John, Rodney, Teyla, Ronon, Elizabeth, Major Teldy, Radek, Miko, Kyli and others--have the power to combat anyone who tries to take Atlantis from them.

Epic series that is a cross-over between Stargate and NCIS. It is mainly a Stargate story with the inclusion of a few NCIS characters (Gibbs, Tony, and later Abby), with the first story set during late SG-1 (season 7/8?) and the rest matched to Atlantis.
Note that the Gibbs/Tony romance is featured heavily throughout, with other pairings (homosexual or not) coming in later. The series is marked as incomplete, but as far as I can tell, that's only so the author has leeway to go back and add new stories in the universe if desired not because the main storyline isn't complete. -

Ongoing massive Star Wars Alternate Universe series that starts from the Phantom Menace and goes in a darker direction with (eventually) a Sith Obi-Wan. Obi-wan is very much the anti-hero of the story, and an all-around interesting character.
The first three parts are complete, with the fourth (taking place during the Star Wars: Rebels era) still ongoing. -

An interesting alternate version of Pride and Prejudice in a world where soulmates exist, the story starts with a match between Elizabeth and Colonel Fitzwilliam, which eventually segue's into the Darcy/Elizabeth romance we expect after Elizabeth becomes a widow due to Waterloo.
The series becomes a bit of a choose-your-own-adventure as the author has added other versions of the latter part of the original story using different points to diverge. In one Fitzwilliam survives his injury at Waterloo and in another, Wellington ends up wooing Elizabeth instead of Darcy. There are also a couple of 'stories' that feature short scenes in the universe that don't fit the main fic for one reason or another.
AMarguerite - the author - has clearly spent a great deal of time researching the history of that time period, which becomes especially evident in the Alternate featuring the romance with Wellington. -

Starts out as a fairly typical someone travels back to change things, but quickly grows into a Sansa Stark is a BAMF and inspires other women to similar heights story. It is quite fluffy, with our heroes being victorious without severe losses, but a glorious tale of heroic women all the same. Features Westeros returning to its state pre-Targaryaen's, with eight kingdoms. There are some intriguing 'women power' moments that pop up through the later part, starting with the 'Battle of the Valkyries' defeating Jamie Lannister and Ramsay Bolton. It later includes such gems as paramours Margaery Tyrell/Ironborn Queen Asha Greyjoy, Shireen Baratheon as Storm Queen, Arya the 'Vengeful' Queen of the Wildlings, and Alys Karstark/Wylla Manderly as Sansa's councilors turned spymasters.
