Summary
Sadie Adler hadn't had no place nor person to call home for near a decade. The road was long as it was lonely, and it gave an awful lot of time for her to get quite well acquainted with herself. Summary
She was leaning against her car in the gas station parking lot, her form illuminated by the harsh glare of the sodium lamps positioned around the cracked asphalt. Jessica kept her eyes, though half-closed and sore from lack of sleep, fixed on the gloom, daring any mechanical monsters that skulked just outside of the protective glow of the lot to step into the light, to expose their ragged faux-fur hides and glittering plastic eyes.
None emerged.
“Too right,” she thought to herself, rapping her manicured nails against the soda can.

(Or: two women, each with one foot in the grave, trying very hard to forge a reminder of their aliveness.)
