“You’re home,” Shane breathed. He sounded relieved. Like he had been waiting for him, like he wanted Ilya there.
Ilya felt something blossom in his chest, something only Shane knew how to grow.
“I did not know you knew how to make shchi.”
“I don’t,” Shane said with a laugh, his face turning even redder. He was embarrassed, Ilya realized. “It’s kind of a ‘learn as I go’ thing.”
Ilya took a step forward, surveying the kitchen. “So you decided to learn today? Did I miss special occasion, is it National Treat Your Russian Boyfriend Day?”

Summary
If anyone looked back on the game, there was nothing out of the ordinary. Nothing remarkable. No unnecessary hits, no checking that was a little too close to the line, no chirps that crossed the line. It was a normal game. Just a freak accident in early January took Shane out of the season for eight weeks.
Shane is injured during a game and has to face eight weeks recovering. Ilya is worried and makes the best of the situation caring for his husband.

When Lindsay, the team operations manager, had pulled them into a meeting to discuss the rooming arrangements for the season, he’d been expecting Shane to get flustered, and turn bright red, and stammer out something like we wouldn’t want to make anyone on the team uncomfortable. Ilya, in fact, had just opened his mouth to say as much to her, but Shane beat him to the punch.
“If it can be arranged and doesn’t throw off anything, that’d be great,” Shane said.
Ilya gaped at him. “You want to room together?”
Shane just looked baffled. “What do you mean? We’re married. Of course we’re rooming together.”
