Maddie bit her lip and turned away, her hand pulling away from his hair to curl into a fist on her lap. That immediately put Tom on edge and he pushed himself to sitting up even as his ribs protested. Tom reached out to place his hand over Maddie’s.
“What happened to Sonic?” Tom demanded.

She shrugs. “A parenting book my mom sent me.” Despite himself, Tails chuckles at that. “But after all of the world-saving you three have done, I think the ‘violence doesn’t solve anything’ train has left the station. … Actually, I don’t think it was even there to begin with.”
