Summary
“Everything was so much easier, then.”
Trinity’s hand that isn't wrapped around the hilt of their sword reaches for Samira’s only briefly. Their fingers brush but the touch doesn’t linger. “What’s difficult today?”
This is the part that she doesn’t know how to explain. It shouldn’t be as hard as it is to tell the commander of her royal guard that she’s going to marry, but perhaps that’s because she isn’t just telling the commander of her royal guard. She’s telling Trinity. Her oldest companion, one of the only people who really knows her, who has really seen all of her—the good and the bad, the beautiful and the ugly. Trinity was the one who held her when her father died, who stood by her unwaveringly during those messy first years of ruling, who sits up with her late at night when she cannot find sleep. The only person who has ever been hers in all the ways that count is Trinity. To offer the space beside her that has always been theirs feels like nothing short of treason.
Or, Samira is a queen and Trinity is her sworn sword / for kass 💗

“Yes, I am feeling a bit shaken, but ultimately okay.” Samira has been reading a lot about vagus nerve regulation lately.
