You scoff, partially out of reflex. He has to know that’s a stupid offer. You third wheel more than enough at work. You try to be respectful about it, which is much more generous than you want to be right now. “Lieutenant, you already know my answer.”
He frowns, nearly imperceptible. Disappointed. “I understand. If you change your mind, let me know.” He moves to head back inside, and you watch him go, not before he stops in the doorway to add, “we would like you to be there.”

Barry knew Lup would absolutely adore Angus, and he ached thinking about how much she would love the domesticity of it all, taking care of just the best kid in the world. It was sad to think he’d finally gotten some piece of that domestic life, and none of it was how it was supposed to be. He and Lup weren’t raising a kid together in a nice home with all of their friends around to help out. Taako was supposed to be the cool uncle who was a bad influence and Magnus was supposed to balance him out by being an excellent influence. Davenport was supposed to teach him important life lessons and Merle was supposed to balance that out by teaching him terrible life lessons.
Instead of that beautiful fantasy, Barry was in a cave he had haphazardly turned into a home, half-raising a kid who wasn't his to raise, all by himself.
And yet, he was grateful to be able to do it.The one where Barry pseudo-adopts Angus before he's recruited into the Bureau.

She startles awake to the sound of Hooty yelling, abruptly sucking her out of the half-asleep state she had been in. She grabs her glyphs on instinct, one of the stacks of paper she leaves around her room for easy access.
When she finds Hooty, he has the door wide open and the body of a teenage boy slumped against the doorframe. A boy who is swathed in red from blood and grasping onto his staff like it’s the only thing keeping him from face planting.
And as Luz walks closer, the light of the moon catches on platinum blonde hair and she suddenly realizes that it’s The Golden Guard in the doorway.
