Summary

When Jayce Talis, the country’s most famous thriller writer, returns from a two-year absence with a harrowing novel about a man’s fall into a ravine and subsequent descent into madness, Viktor knows he has to try to invite him to a Q&A and pick his brain. What starts off as a business agreement quickly becomes more, as sparks fly and the two men find themselves craving each other’s company more and more.
Will they find what they have always searched for in each other, or will they let their fears get the best of them before they can even become something more?

Summary
In a game that’s considered an escape from reality for Jayce, he soon discovers there are more parallels in the fantasy to his own life than he first thought. Viktor's character, The Herald, is more human than he thought, and has begun making those human feelings known to Jayce- er, The Defender.
Viktor assures him that in-game flirting with friends is part of the fun of D&D, but with a hoard of mind-controlled robots to defeat, and his master’s thesis due soon, the lines have begun to blur for Jayce.
Maybe his feelings- or, his character’s feelings, of course- for Viktor are the least of his problems.
Or maybe they’re at the center of it all.

It’s really too bad that someone else put a ring on Viktor’s finger first.
“You’re my best friend, Viktor.” Because no matter how much time passed between them—no matter how many connecting flights it would take, Jayce would always find a way back to him.
“I know, Jayce,” Viktor said, voice quiet, as if the weight of his words would bend from the emotion he was holding back. “You’re mine as well.”
Or maybe being an emotional mess just made Jayce read into things too deeply.

Jayce quiets, briefly. The apples of his cheeks gently flush, warm and pink, and he subconsciously tucks the stack of clipboards a bit closer to his chest.
