Summary
Two years after their arrival to Elysium, Mòrag is busier than ever. Niall and Brighid grow worried she's overworking herself. To celebrate the two-year anniversary, the Emperor decided to organize a big event for everyone. They hope she'll take the chance to relax and reconnect with her friends, but all that is thrown out the window the moment the Special Inquisitor is suddenly in the sights of a dangerous group in apparent thirst for revenge, looking to punish her for actions committed in her past. “Do you… want me to stay?” she asked softly.
The question caught him off guard. The immediate response his brain came up with was ‘Yes’, but that wasn’t all there was to it.
“I do.” he said. “If that’s what you want, too.”
His heart beat once, and then twice, before she shifted in place, straightening up enough so that they could talk face to face. He caught the remnants of tears on her face, and he reached out to gently wipe them away.
“Why would you?” she asked.
Dunban could think of a thousand reasons. Because he enjoyed her company, because he liked coming home to her, because he loved doing even the most trivial of things together, and because if she left he would miss her so much he wasn’t sure how he could deal with it.

No, it reminds him of the look a carnivore gives its prey when it knows its got its next meal cornered. It’s making him feel infinitesimal, and at the same time the only person in the room. Sakura wants to squirm under the intense gaze, throw a punch or two to stop the shiver running up his spine; but he also wants to sit still, staring back, just to see what would happen.
