When Sabo woke he was in the forest and it was night time, panic surged through him as he jolted up, hands forming into claws only to pause when he caught sight of Ace glaring at him from across the fire. Relief flooded him immediately to see his twin, even if he was angry. “Ace!? You scared me! What's happened? Why are you here?”
“Why am I here?” Ace asked in disbelief. “Oh I don't know Portgas Sabo, why don’t you tell me?”
“… you talked to Luffy…” Sabo said with a pained wince.

"They caught Luffy."
The words echo in Ace's head like a mantra, inescapable and horrifying. Three words that are worse than anything Impel Down had thrown at him so far, worse than the jeers and the torture, worse than the seastone exhaustion and the knowledge of his impending death.
Gramps says the words with a finality that tells Ace he is not going to do anything, that he's not even going to try and help Lu' even if he is the baby of the family, even if he doesn't deserve this - even if he wasn't born with cursed blood in his veins.

In Sabaody, Kuma is too slow to send Luffy away as well and the Strawhat Captain is slated for execution alongside Firefist Ace when news of his parentage breaks out. Blood and bruises and shattered glass, a Celestial Dragon lying on the ground like a broken doll, his nakama jumping to fight the guards of the other two, to help him and for a moment Luffy had time to notice other new colours in his sight, shades of yellow and golden that had been missing before and he still didn’t know who they are for.
The colour of your soulmate's eyes is out of reach, replaced by shades of grey, until you meet them. In the Human Auction House three Supernovas suddenly see their world with all the colours they had missed. It changes little in the way events unfold on Sabaody and yet everything in the long run.
