He couldn’t imagine his friend would treat him unkindly, nor could he even begin to believe his feelings were returned. What would happen? Would Keith reject him gently and promise nothing would change, only for the awkwardness to drive them apart? Lance couldn’t have that. More than just the object of his affection, Keith was his best friend. He was family. Lance couldn’t lose him just because he couldn’t keep his heart in his chest. After years of fighting in a war, all Lance wants to do is kick back and actually enjoy his twenties, a goal made easier when he inherits a house of his own soon after returning to Earth. The problem now is that he's realizing how empty it is with only one person living in such a large space, and what better way to solve that than by inviting the only other ex-paladin living on his own to move into the spare bedroom? It's a win-win; Lance gets the company he's been sorely missing and Keith saves a small fortune on rent.
And so what if they don't quite act like your typical roommates? Whose business is that but their own?
