the name for this series comes from the term "the hedgehog's dilemma" (sometimes porcupine is used instead) that is a metaphor about the difficulties of human intimacy. meaning, a hedgehog (or in this case, a fox!) may desperately want to be close / have the intention of goodwill, but they will inevitably harm others due to their own nature. it is a self-imposed exile where an individual cannot see an outcome that does not result in mutual harm, so they refrain from gaining any close relationships at all.
that is to say, it's commander fox angst lol. enjoy!!

When Thorn wakes up, hurting all over and lacking the memory of where he is and where he’s been and what he’s done, he's less freaked about it than he maybe should be.
He remembers the Chancellor calling him. Fox is the Chancellor’s official liaison, and Fox does his damn best to keep the rest of them out of his grip, and as such the call had been unusual, and he remembers being surprised by it. Remembers stepping into the blood red room of the Chancellor’s office, seeing the slow spread of a smile across the old man’s face, and remembers no more.
