Summary
The God of Deceit was once a god who danced through truth like a flame through old parchment—destructive, beautiful, inevitable. But that was before the fae turned their backs. Before they bound him in this tree, with chains etched in runes that gnawed through flesh and soul alike.
Now he is stillness. Now he is silence. Now he is Shadow Milk—the god no one remembers, watching the world like a man at the bottom of a well watches the light too far above to reach.
And so he waits.
Through the thin membrane of reality, where the veil is weakest, he sees the world. He sees the golden fields stretching in humble simplicity, dotted with the flicker of sheep. He sees the hill, where wildflowers bloom with such audacity they seem to challenge the sky.
And there, in the middle of it all—white as a breath, still as a prayer—is the shepherd. Pure Vanilla.

Pure Vanilla thinks of his flock as he dies. He thinks of Dandelion. He thinks of warm bread and honey. Of sun on his face. Of the feeling of grass beneath his feet.
Death is not merciful, it is not quick.
The shepherd bleeds, and The God of Deceit does not intervene.

Summary
Alice looked every bit as warm and kind as they’d described her, but to someone who’d only ever known the frosty cold of Dragonspine, such warmth was almost too much to bear. When she stretched out her hand to him as an invitation to join their little group hug, Dorian panicked.
He didn’t know what possessed him. He was his own person, capable of making his own decisions, yet in that moment, he was convinced the best possible decision he was capable of making was to run.
Whoppy only managed to climb onto his back just in time before he rushed past Alice and out of the house. To what destination he didn’t know yet, so long as Alice would not be able to find him. If he hid from her well enough, she wouldn’t get the opportunity to reject him at all.
"Oh…he’s not a hugger, then?"

That she would send her pack on unsuspecting travelers and revel as they were torn limb by limb. That she would take her own bites out of the meat, hands as bloodied as the claws of her wolves. She looked like nothing of these stories. She was stupid girl in the woods risking her life with feral animals and occasionally scaring off the locals. She was no monster. She was nothing like him.

Finally, his king turned to face him. Their gazes locked, and both men’s eyes spoke of their unwavering certainty towards opposite ideas.
“I hereby release you of that vow,” the king started, with the commanding tone he usually reserved for formal proceedings.
Martyn tried to protest, but the monarch fixed him with a look so vexing the knight found himself quite unable to speak. It was a tender fondness tinted by dread and something suspiciously similar to grief.
His king’s next words were far softer, delicately woven together with a lace of wistful sorrow. “I know that you are truly a man of your word Martyn, so please do not make me promises that you’ll regret.”

At first, it just bothered her how Illari hadn’t even taken a chance to get to know the team, but mostly her. The more Illari tried to shut her out, the more Kiriko obsessed. It was like a never-ending push and pull.

Summary
Really, it's incredibly obnoxious, the way these two fit so well in the aching gaps between his ribs where loss has dug its claws in. They ought to be planning out their next runs, trying to figure out any possible way to get a hold of some new drop-related information. It's the apocalypse, and the list of things to do is arduous, infinite.
But there's organizing and sewing to do, too. So he lets the ever-present song of grief that haunts him fade into the jaunty, obscure pop-rock song that Cleo is certainly butchering. He stabs himself with his needle and bites out a few bouts of unpleasant words that make Etho’s eyes light up while he bubbles with laughter.
Yeah, maybe this is alright. Grian can worry about the rest of it tomorrow. It's the apocalypse, and all they have is time.
Grian, Cleo, and Etho are family; even if it's unusual, even if it's the zombie apocalypse. They wear their routines and quirks on their sleeves, keep their secrets and pasts buried six feet deep. But some ghosts are too vicious to outrun, and some secrets are far too fickle to keep.

The code is pounding in your ears, spinning and yanking you apart. Everything tastes like soot and grass and smoke. Fingers sting with cold and wet from cracking mob eggs, yolk-code dribbling down your wrist. You scan the grassy cliff for Pearl, but there's no sign of her in the tall grass. She must have disappeared beneath the ledge.
"Pearl!" You stuff the bow away, vaporizing it to your inventory in a swirl of white sparks. You draw your diamond sword. "I'm comin' for ya!"
Where is she? Anxiety and adrenaline thrash like tangled snakes up your throat and down your spine- it's squid tentacles beating at your head. You cough, lurching down a couple more steps. The bottom of the ravine isn't far- just steps… just…
"Where'd ya go!?" Voice laughing, voice tumbling- Always look on the bright side. Sunflowers chase the sun. Chocolate wafers and caramel tangle in your mouth. Teeth stick. It's getting hard to breathe.
