Work Text:
Luz stepped onto a makeshift stage, a microphone in hand.
They were in the living room of the Owl House, but all the furniture had been pushed back to make room for the stage and comfy bean bag chairs. In said chairs sat: Amity, Hunter, Eda, King, Willow, Gus, and Tiny Nose (recently found to be named Tinella, but that wasn’t important.)
Luz stood in her pajamas, rose tinted heart glasses over her eyes. She grinned, bouncing on her toes as she brought the mic to her mouth. “Hellloooo Bonesborough! Welcome to our First ever….!” She did a drum roll with her feet, grinning. “-Karaoke night!!”
The group below cheered, Amity cheering the loudest, while Hunter simply clapped, looking tired as usual. Luz clasped her hands together, bouncing again. She had already showed a list of songs to her friends, so she knew what they were all going to be singing. She hooked her phone up to a karaoke machine, grinning as she turned. “Okay gang, who wants to go first?”
When nobody answered, Luz giggled. “Alright, let Luz Noceda show you all how its done then!” She scrolled through her phone, pulling up the song she had chosen for herself.
The first beats of Wait a Minute began to play, and Luz scooped up the microphone, grinning.
“Wait a minute,
I think I left my conscience on your front door step
Oh, oh, wait a minute,
I think I left my consciousness in the 6th dimension..”
She bounced on her toes as she sang. admittedly, it didn’t sound like the singer at all, but that was okay, because Luz added her own charm with her voice, and she sounded quite good. Hunter was actually lightly tapping his foot to the beat, and Amity watched with sparkling eyes. Eda noticed this and scoffed with a fond smile.
The song closed out, and the group below clapped, Amity whistling as she jumped up and down. Luz flushed and bowed, before hopping off the stage with a giggle. Hunter then stood, stalking onto the stage, King following at his feet. Luz shook her head with a quiet chuckle.
She had.. politely disagreed to King singing Teenagers with Hunter, namely because of the swears, but King, Eda, and Hunter had all insisted. (Eda mainly because she wanted to laugh at him.)
So up they went, and Luz put the song on for them.
…It went, exactly how you would expect it with a bunch of immature children and adults in one room. They all ended up singing with Hunter and King, Hunter looking almost as happy as he did when Eda adopted him.
..almost. Luz doubted he could ever look happier than that day.
“All teenagers scare the livin' shit out of me,
They could care less as long as someone'll bleed!
So darken your clothes, or strike a violent pose
Maybe they'll leave you alone, but not me!!”
As the song came to its close, everyone burst out in laughter and cheers. Hunter and King high-fived, before stepping off the stage.
~~~
Most of the others went similarly, with Willow singing ‘Looking out for you’ (Both Willow and Amity cried a bit after.), Gus Singing ‘Everybody Talks’, because of course he did, and Eda singing.. S.L.U.T. You would think she would have a raspier singing voice, but no.
Amity’s turn came up, and she shuffled up nervously. Luz beamed at her, and Amity took a deep breath. Luz hit play on the song, and sat down.
“Space Girl, show me the stars
You know the galaxies of my heart,
Girl, are you a cancer?
'Cause you make me cry
When we kiss or dance in the sky..”
Luz’s eyes widened, a hand slowly reaching up to cover her mouth. A blush and smile slowly creeped along her face as her girlfriend sang.
To say she was a good singer was a horrible understatement. She sounded like she could be head of the Bard Coven with that voice. (Sorry, Raine.)
Her voice danced along her ears, filling her head with the song. If this girl was a siren, Luz would be diving headfirst into the water to meet with her.
As the song slowly came to its end, Luz sprung up, flying up to meet Amity on the stage. She scooped her up, spinning her around as they both giggled.
“You were wonderful, Amity.”
“Aw, Luz, you don’t gotta-” She was cut off with a kiss to the cheek, and in a flash Luz had flown back down the stairs, sitting back in her chair with a grin.
Amity bloomed red, mumbling something, before stepping down the stairs and sinking down next to Luz, who wrapped an arm around her. Amity squeaked gently, legs bouncing as she lightly flapped her hands again.
“My turn!!” Tiny Nose bounded up the stairs, snagging the Mic off the floor. Luz smiled, but it quickly faded. “Tiny Nose, wait-”
But she was already drawing a spell circle, saying something about needing to set the scene.
“TAKE COVER!!” Luz cried, and they all scattered as Tinella let out a Death Metal screech, a red blast shooting out of the spell circle and crashing into the couch.
Note to self: Do not invite Tiny Nose to the next Karaoke Night.
